| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

Ted Koppel's The People's Republic of Capitolism
Just watching this now having DVR'd the series. 4 part series on the evolution of capitalism in China. Finale is tomorrow, although I'm sure they will replay it. Absolutely fascinating. A speaker at my undergrad 14 years ago told us if we wanted to be rich to learn Chinese and major in international business... he was right.

yeah, but is it capital or capitol?
honestly, Jim Rogers is a big investor and he sold his house on the upper west side manhattan and moved to singapore. he got a chinese nanny to teach his daughter mandarin. he is convinced that they are going to take over the world's economy.

Capital. I got it wrong in the title and right in the post. Damn, I knew I'd do that.

China is putting 9 million additional cars on the road a year. They are building and interstate system like Ike did here in the 50s. Soon, their auto industry will be the biggest industry in the world and they plan to start selling cars in the US next year. The citizens love American cars, the status symbol vehicle is a black Buick. GM now sells more cars in China than the US. In other words, offshore drilling won't do a damned thing about gas prices. Anyways, it is quite interesting to watch how they are going about building a middle class. I saw Koppel on the Daily Show and he said they were not restricted or censored in the filming of this series, which is a pretty big deal. It will be interesting to see how the press is handled during the Olympics next month.
