| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

Season Tickets for Elected Officials
Thought these were some interesting articles in the Akron paper today. I knew the State legislature received access to tickets, however, I was shocked to hear the offer extends to the Columbus City Council, Franklin County officeholders and Columbus Civic Leaders. What the hell is a "Civic" leader in Columbus?

This is one of my pet peeves.
Best seats I ever had were field level 50 yard line. Got them from my wife's boss whose husband was a State Rep. He had them in a drawer and had forgotten all about them. Who knows how many others went unused.
I am at a loss to explain political perks like these.

a state rep just recently resigned because he was taking the tickets he got as an elected official and scalping them for cash, which is a clear violation of election laws.

I can explain it - they think they're friggin royalty. They're the elite ruling class, and what they subscribe for us peons doesn't apply to them. The politicians who villify "the rich" make sure to have plenty of perks for themselves. Take Charles Rangel, for example:
The New York Timesdisclosed recently that Rangel has no fewer than four rent-controlled apartments in his Harlem district, three for his family and one for a campaign office. For these he pays a fraction of the market rate.
The Washington Postadded to the narrative, reporting that the congressman has been raising money from people and businesses with interests before the Ways and Means panel for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service, a $30 million monument to himself and home for his papers at the City College of New York.
Then there's Rangel's car, a 2004 Cadillac DeVille he leases at taxpayer expense for $777.54 a month. "I want (my constituents) to feel that they are somebody and their congressman is somebody," he told The Times.
And it's not just good ol' Charlie, it's most (if not all) of them, regardless of party affiliation. They're entitled in their minds, and we pay for it. ![[censored]ed](http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/images/smilies/cussing2.gif)

I'm going to fire off an e-mail to my local state Senator to she if she's willing to sell me a couple tickets for the Troy State game. Wish me luck.
