I guess it is a subtle distinction, but I have no problem at all with thanking God for your gifts, be they physical or whatever. I have no problem praying for God to grant me wisdom or strength or to do the right things. But I do have a problem when God in invoked to battle your political rival. For example, she said: "
We can't get that message through the mainstream media. ... I have to have that faith that God's going to help us get that message out there."
That statement assumes a couple of things. One, that God is on her side. Two, that God, because he is on her side, is not on the side of those who disagree with her political message. Three, that the God who in on her side and not the side of the opponent is willing to "step in" with divine assistance and help her overcome the forces of the political opposition.
Which leads to two other things: One, it has to logically hold that any efforts used to overcome the forces of the political opposition are also backed by God (who backs her side after all)....supports the notion that - say - negative robocalls
must be OK, as they support God's will in overcoming the forces of the political opposition.
Second, if I do win, then it is because of God's intervention, which confirms the fact that my opponent and their policies are not "Godly"
If she does win, it WILL be because God wants a winner that supports his agenda, and because God supports Republicans. If Obama wins, however, it will not be because God backs the Democratic plank, but because people where not praying enough, or because they were being punished for their evil behavior.
God as you personal source of strength is fine. God as your conscious ally against the political opposition is very frightening to me, as the final logical conclusion is this: if God is on my side, when you support Obama and the Democrats, you cannot be a follower of God's will.
If you support Obama, you act against God.
I do not like this.
