Harping on the "death panel" line is a wonderful way of deflecting from the real issue - government's role in your health care decisions - and changing the subject to Sarah Palin. Politically, it makes sense for Democrats to do it but I don't know why anyone outside of that realm would cling to it to this extent. For if you think the language is only about "living will issues" I'd love to sell you a used car.
Obama has already answered the question as to what role "we" - aka, the government - play in health care decisions. "We can let doctors know that maybe you're better off not having surgery, but taking the pain pill," is a revealing line. Apparently, "we" know more about your health situation than your doctor, and "we" can make that decision for you. And why not, "we" already do this in the UK and Canada, so why can't "we" do it here. I don't need the term "death panel" included in the bill to understand how the hell it works, because there is nothing original about this concept.
Sarah Palin doesn't concern me in the least, because she's not the President.
