| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

I'm thrilled with this pick. I am a big Romney supporter, but she brings so much more than he does. I saw her on CNBC back in July and was very impressed, but I didn't think she would get picked.

I don't think it does at all. They will paint her as "more conservative" than Bush. Palin is a former "Buchananite."

[tibor75] Somebody that already had 4 kids, and when she was the governor of a state got pregnant (which almost certainly was unplanned), is ready to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency? She couldn't manage her own reproductive cycle and she's going to be ready to run the country if McCain dies? [/tibor75]
I thought I'd save Tibs the trouble. ![]() |

It could either work out fantastically for McCain or be a miserable failure, even people that think Palin is wonderful choice have to admit that picking her is a gamble.

Watch the end of that vid. She doesn't know what the VP does? Oh, this is going to be interesting. |

In her speech Palin blatantly appealed to Hillary voters. I would expect that a response from Hillary distancing herself from most of Palin's positions on the issues is imminent.

I actually like this pick. You want an outsider, you can't get much more outside of DC than Alaska..... And she's the ONLY one with any type of governmental executive experience. The polls Tuesday will be quite interesting. |

And Buchanan has what to do with the current Bush administration?

You don't exactly go after centrist swing voters by picking someone from the right wing of the right wing. It's no longer a doubling down on Bush's policies, it is a tripling.

Don't let that get in the way of attempts at discrediting her. Funny how everyone is trying to make such a big deal out of this. Maybe it's because Obama has had every advantage possible and it is still a toss up.

McCain's problem, if you listen to the news, is that he hasn't motivated the conservative base.....

McCain won the buzz/headline war for the next day or two. We'll see where it goes beyond that. |

As muckfich said, this could really really work well for McCain or it could blow up in his face. There really isn't a middle ground at the moment.... Probably the most important thing is that this announcement has completely swung the coverage from the DNCC to McCain's campaign.... |
