| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

In her interview with Katie Couric Sarah Palin essentially called Henry Kissinger naive and also proved that she just hasn't done her homework.
Couric: You met yesterday with former Secretary of StateActually. That's exactly Henry Kissinger's position. And Couric even went ahead and confirmed it with Kissinger after the interview. Here is what Kissinger said just last week at a forum of five secretaries of state. |

WSJ Article on Palin
Profile of Alaska's Sarah Palin: Governor, Reformer, Mother By JIM CARLTON August 31, 2008 5:51 p.m. "She took on not only a sitting governor from her own party but also Alaska's Republican establishment -- vowing to clean up a political system that had been rocked by an Federal Bureau of Investigation corruption probe. After handily winning, her popularity in Alaska soared as she went on to sack political appointees with close ties to industry lobbyists." Please get the real facts on the bridge to nowhere and just not your marching orders. Just like all pork projects, they start out with a budget that seems somewhat reasonable and then by the time they pile on the earmarks it becomes this fricking nightmare. Fact 1: At some level Governor Palin showed support for the bridge project while she was running in the race for Governor of Alaska. Fact 2: Congress made the money for the Gravina Island Bridge available to Alaska, although it didn't have to be used for that bridge. Fact 3: The State of Alaska already had the federal funds in hand when Gov. Palin took office. Fact 4: Governor Palin put a stop to the bridge project and appropriated the funds for more reasonable uses. |

Do you really think Israel, if it feels there is a potential nuclear threat from Iran, is not going to bomb them if we don't want them to? I am sure they would like our support prior to bombing, but not having it is not likely going to stop them.

I guess I read your "it doesn't matter" differently, as in saying it doesn't matter what Palin understands/thinks of Kissinger's position (that was the context you made your comment, correct?). I wanted to expand your "it doesn't matter" to the larger issue of who is in the White House in terms of Israel's potential to bomb Iran if they feel a threat.

I believe that they should, our bailout over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., err, uh, should help job creation and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our health care for our..."

But Palin's interpretation of the situation does matter, in the sense that the spirit of her statement sounds like a position that will not lead to any other ending but war. That is pretty much the position that the Bush administration adopted prewar Iraq, and it leaves no room for realpolitik solutions that may be a stretch, but may prove useful. So in that sense, Palin's position is not only ignorant but also uncomfortably hawkish as well. |
