| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

Ex-Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (Official)
Since Biden has a thread, I thought I would create one for Palin. Have at it.

Sooooo.... the 72-year-old candidate that has run on the premise that his opponent is too inexperienced to lead the country in such troubling times picks Sarah Palin. If you ever questioned the sincerity of the "inexperience" attack on Obama, here's your answer. . . .

It's hard to imagine that a 1 year governor from Alaska at 44 is the person McCain would really assert is ready to step into the office if he were to croak. (And croaking is a very real possibility.)

The pick is genius for the following reasons:
1. It was a genuine surprise, watering down some of the buzz from Obama's terrific speech last night. 2. The Hillary factor. Obama missed his chance to pick an historic running mate, and McCain stepped in. 3. Palin's beauty, like it or not, will be an asset. Unlike a Kay Bailey Hutchinson, she does not give off that appearance of an old-style female Republican hell-bent on traditional female roles in society. She looks the part of an independant woman. 4. She gives credibility to McCain's position to drill in ANWAR. It's her state. Certainly, she's qualified to speak on the issue. It's also an extremely risky choice for the following reasons: 1. No one has any idea how well she will carry herself on the national stage. We'll find out next week. 2. She's young and extremely inexperienced, which will hurt McCain's ability to continue to attack Obama on the same for the same reasons. 3. As an extension of #2, McCain's age must cause concern that Palin, with no experience in foreign relations, could become President at the beat of the heart. 4. She'll be in trouble when she debates Biden, especially on national security issues. 5. She will be seen, by some, as a token pick, simply a pawn to attract upset Hillary voters. |

She's hot and of the 4, she's probably last in the dead pool.

Ha! Headline March 24, 2008: President McCain unexpectedly suffers a fatal heart attack during an adulterous romp with the Vice President.

I don't see how inexperience is as compelling a factor for VP as for President, seeing as how the responsibilities are so different. |

It's actually a very intelligent pick...no one other than conservatives wants a conservative like Romney right now, and they won't be what wins McCain the election if he does. Plus, you'll have butt-sockets like Keith Olbermann trashing the pick for every pretentious reason known to man (or woman), from eye candy to here's another one McCain wants to hit to she has no qualifications to...whatever, which of course will rile up certain people, possibly enough to switch sides. McCain had nothing to lose with this pick, whereas he really had little to gain from any of the others.
