| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

Big loss for ACORN and the bailout provision that would have directed funds their way if the Dems got their way.
This begs the question: Isn't part of the reason we (Fannie/Freddie, etc) are in this financial mess because we tried to give "affordable housing" to people that couldn't afford it? Ironic indeed. ACORN outrage removes affordable housing provision The ACORN issue is off the table. After several days of rage from conservative activists regarding a provision in the bailout bill that would send some of the profits from the sale of distressed assets the goverment buys into an affordable housing trust fund, congressional negotiators have removed section 105(d) of the bailout proposal, according to aides on both side. ACORN, a Democratic ally, was not specifically directed any funds in the previous proposal, but money that went to state and local governments could then have been divvied out to the organization, which the GOP said was a deal breaker. Fevered opposition to the provision had become a viral sensation. link |

Your own article notes that no funds would be specifically directed to an ACORN sponsored organization. Ironic indeed. I guess that the GOP House Reps get their chest thumping talking point. ACORN, by the way, is not just one organization, but an umbrella organization. The "controversy" about ACORN has to do with their voter registration efforts. As often happens in voter reg drives, they hire young kids and pay them by the head. So what happens is they end up submitting dup and false apps. Because they tend to do this in poor (Dem heavy) areas, the GOP loves to grandstand about this when they get caught submitting bad apps. This has NOTHING to do with their housing initiatives. The purpose of their organization is to make sure people get into houses the can afford. They counsel people away from bad loans and getting in over their head. The GOP doesn't like this because it prevents their banker buddies to use their predatory lending methods. Apparently, they also believe that counseling people to get smart loans, refinance when they have bad loans, and be educated about home buying are bad things. ![]() Another typical GOP talking point: Poor people are poor because they are stupid and lazy and get what they deserve (such as bad loans). |

I did not attribute that to you, but cited it as a typical GOP talking point. I am glad you don't buy that one. Sorry, if it seemed I was accusing you of that.

Didn't Obama contibute $800,000 from his campaign fund to Acorn?

Didn't NoBoma also, as a lawer, represent ACORN at one time?
Kind of Funny that a Democratic supporter ,ACORN, is being investigated in numerous reports of voter registration. I can't believe that you liberals hate our country so much that you lie cheat and do what ever you can to get someone in office. Unbelievable. |

- hate the US - lie and cheat - do anything to get other liberals elected What a post. Captures any number of stereotypes in one fell swoop. BTW, nobody should read this post here as supporting ACORN, liberalism, or the Democrat party. I'd just rather see valid and supportable criticisms than unfounded name-calling. |

I apologize, to anyone I have offended.
I should not revert to child hood name calling and I apologize to you or anyone. Can you answer the first question in my post? Did Obama represent them in a court, I believe it was in New York where this happened and fought a bank to give loans to those who could not afford because they were being so called racial. I hope this is not flaming and trolling is it? |

Dishonest AND stupid...the hits just keep on coming.
![]() Nevada authorities seized records Tuesday from a group they accused of submitting fraudulent voter-registration forms including for the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys. Tony Romo is not registered to vote in the stateof Nevada, and anybody trying to pose as Terrell Owens won't be able to cast a ballot on Nov. 4, said Secretary of State Ross Miller, referring to star players on the pro football team. State authorities raided the headquarters of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), a group that works to register low-income people...It has encountered complaints of fraud stemming from registration efforts in Wisconsin, North Carolina, New Mexico, Michigan, Ohio and Missouri.
