2008 VP Debate: October 2nd, 9 PM EST

Now, I brought up the book sales issue because I was illustrating a conflict of interest, not making excuses for Palin or McCain. Now I don't presume to know what attitude she is going to bring to the table tonight, so I won't prejudge. But please don't tell me people are naive enough to think that her releasing her book about black political figures with Obama on the cover on the day she and most people think he will be sworn in as President is coincidence. It's smart marketing, and she would stand to benefit (even if it's only selling 2000 instead of 1000) if Obama wins. Will that affect her tonight? I can't say, but, like it or not, it is a conflict of interest.

After a journalist has a body of work, as ifill does, it is presumtuous to think that she will throw what is for a journalist a moment that is a professional hgh point for the possible gain to be had if Obama is elected and more people buy her book about black people in politics? Why isn't she biased because the book is also about Condi Rice, when the Obama campaign excoriates the Bush administration?

its not up to the comission to vet the moderators, something like this should have been put forward by the moderator. if pre approved by the commish and the canidates, fine.

possibly true, it should be noted that rice is not in the title, obama is. 99% of the voters will not read the book... the book doesnt even have a full preview out so i have no idea what the contents are other than a few blurbs.

its all about perception...

also i think it is important to point out that this may actually hurt biden. you need to flip each coin over and look at both sides. i have not seen very many people say, how does this possibly effect biden. perception is each mans reality. the real reality, the reality of the person who examines from an unbiased point of view is lost, thats not the true reality. people see/observe what they want to observe. it is no different from those who say ohio state doesnt blitz, or we dont play man coverage, we do. people just some how seem to gloss over that based on their perceptions.

She is a close friend of Condi. But that's OK. Point is, the freaking McCain campaign had months to protest, the book project was not a deep dark secret, and it only became an issue when Caribou Barbie started channeling Dubya in her interviews... The McCain camp had no objection to her when they were originally asked. If the McCain camp cannot do a google search in a month's time, then that alone should make you vote Obama.

Gov. Palin, in an interview with CNBC earlier this year, you said you'd have to know what exactly it is that the VP does all day before taking the job, what do you think it is that the VP does and how will you carry out your duties as VP?

If you're like us, you already started drinking weeks ago in preparation for tomorrow night's debate, which will no doubt be the most watched vice presidential debate in the history of televised vice presidential debates. But if you're waiting till Gwen Ifill officially gets the party started, we've got something for ya.
The rules are simple: each of these is to be accompanied by a shot of any neutral grain spirit you can get your hands on:

* Every time Sarah Palin says "Gwen," open your copy of How to Totally Ace Your Job Interview, and then think about where you see yourself in five years.
* Every time Joe Biden says "malarkey," drink a shot of hogwash.
* Every time Palin mentions Russia, mention France, re: Senator Biden's underpants.
* Every time Biden mentions his Scranton upbringing, sing the first verse of "Allentown."
* Every time Palin mentions wildlife protection, skin the person next to you.
* Every time Biden mentions his father, sing the bridge of "Allentown."
* Every time Palin accidentally agrees with Barack Obama, spin around and around in your chair until whatever she said starts to sound like a GOP talking point.
