Presidential Debate #3: 9 PM ET, 10/15/08

All the networks polling on people who watched the debate have Obama winning. Maybe it was the "looks" that McCain was giving? I don't know. But it seems like people, especially independents, thought Obama won. McCain obviously didn't hit the home run he needed, but I don't even know if he hit a single.

I think these polls are pretty worthless personally. I don't trust the networks or people in them.

That being said, I expect Obama to win the election.

he didn't say that. i think he said she will fight for special needs children and she is aware of the effect that autism is having on families. he sort of lumped them all into one bucket.

billmac - each time those polls showed like those cited, Obama's numbers firmed or swelled.

They may not be indicative of voting intention.

They are informative of how the undecided (a shrinking percentage) tilted following the debate.

This isn't good news for John McCain.

I'm not sure McCain realizes how much he's on camera when he's not talking. It's bothered me every debate, but tonight I found his self righteous indignation all but wholly unbearable.

And while he was more aggressive, he was overbearing at times, stepping even on the moderator. Obama had been guilty of that in prior debates, so....

I liked Obama trying to focus the debate on the issue instead of "hurt feelings" about how the negative campaigning has gone, and he won on the "Ayers" confrontation too, if you ask me. 40 years ago... 8 years old... Ah... irrelevant. I get it. Let's move on...

Understood. How do we know how undecided the people in the room are though??

Most news netowrks lean Democratic, so why assume they are going to be fair and balanced when searching for research groups?

Because most news organization are run by people who aren't democrats. While it's true that joe reporter is more likely to be a Dem, it's also true that Joe Editor and Joe Network owner are more likely to be Con.... it's a wash...

That said, I often wonder who the "undecideds" really are. Seems to easy to "plant" oneself there just so they could spout off about their favorite candidate all the while calling themselves undecided. Pretty blunt tool, in any case.

Locating Joe | 10:44 p.m. Looks like The Associated Press reached Joe the Plumber, er, Joe Wurzelbacher, who lives near Toledo, Ohio. He did not say who he was voting for, but did say he was surprised that he was called “Joe the Plumber” repeatedly during the debate.
“It’s pretty surreal, man, my name being mentioned in a presidential campaign,” he is quoted as saying.

Why I think McCain loses these debates...

1. Body language.

2. McCain attacks Obama. Obama refutes attack. McCain repeats attack. (move on)

3. McCain plays to his base. Obama plays more to undecided voters.
