One other relevant point concerning Government intervention in the financial landscape for energy generation.

Whenever the issue of tax credits / incentives and alternative energy arises it is well worth remembering the full scope of Fderal support for power generation and distribution - whether for conventional or alternative gneration modes. It is extensive, it is ongoing and the only issue of any contention in the past was which sources were most favored.

We should be beyond that now. Elimination of tax incentives for Solar or Wind or (name your solution) shouldn't be the issue. Fair and equitable apportionment in the best public interest should be the issue - which would keep assistance for Solar and Wind power generation in play in my view.

Here is a 2007 publication of the EIA (PDF file) on the scope of then current incentives, tax credits, subsidies, loans and insurance underwriting that assists development and deployment of electric power generation - massive sums then, larger ones needed now.

Actually, our dependence on foreign oil dropped dramatically, as did the power of OPEC, by the mid-80's. It was only after the market subsequently corrected with lower gas prices, did Detroit, Congress and the American consumer lose any sense of discipline and long term view ultimately putting us into the position we're in today.

Good article - now how do you convince folks that Synrock or similar is a good immoblization method for the waste remaining after Nuclear Fuel recycling is completed?
And that Yucca is in fact a valid repository for such depleted waste?

Last Tuesday was truly a historic day for our country. It was frankly amazing to see Barack Obama claim victory in our country?s Presidential election.
As I watched the victory celebration, my thoughts immediately went to two people?my mother and father. When I was a young man growing up, my parents constantly emphasized the fact that in this country, if you work hard and a live a good life, you can accomplish anything. Obama?s election is proof that their view was absolutely correct.
Whether or not you agree with his political stances, Obama?s election marks an important turning point in our country?s history. For one, his campaign was able to mobilize people who have not participated in the voting process before. It?s also worth noting that around the world, the reaction to his election bordered on jubilation. Our friends around the world clearly saw great promise in Obama?s election.
I also thought quite a bit about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He had a vision of America that perhaps looked unrealistic 40 years ago. Yet his vision has been achieved, and today our country has made tremendous strides in bridging our racial divide. By electing an African American to our nation?s highest office, America has once again proven it is a land of opportunity for all.
Election night was also hugely successful for some of our alumni who were victorious in races throughout the state and country. I wish our elected alumni well as they take up the challenge of serving their communities. Our university charges its graduates with using their degrees to better the world, and it is great to see so many accepting that challenge.

The connotations are a bit silly.

The President rides in a heavily armored vehicle, any connection to something straight off the assembly line is merely cosmetic. The weight of the armor needed on those limos make hybrid/electric powerplants completely unrealistics. The vehicles we drove in the sandbox were 16k lbs & up and the President's hoopty is going to be even heavier. That requires a lot more get up and go than a ceiling fan motor at each will can provide.

It's stupid to think the President of the United States will be riding around in a home conversion electric RAV4 like Ed Begley Jr.

If they want to make political hay about his "faux greeness" they would talk about his trading in his Chyrsler 300 for the Escape Hybrid so he could look more enviro PC.

The comparisons to Gov Patrick are similarly ridiculous. It's not like the upcoming President is buying a Bugatti on the taxpayer's dime. To be honest I'm not even sure how much input the President has on the exact make/model of the presidential limo.

Still I'm sure the Escalade will score him mad props in south ChiTown.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.


"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military.

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said in July. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

Talk about high levels of inflection. Wouldn't civilian by definition mean they wouldn't be a part of the government and thus not 'answering to him'. Regardless, I highly doubt that's what he meant. National security IS a bigger job than just for the US military. That's why we have things like the police, CIA, NSA, National Guard, etc.

Personally, I think proposing a new force would be redundant and any new entity that has the potential to further restrict freedom scares the pants off of me. But I'm sure if ever there was a president whose personal goal was to control America's populous by implementing Nazi or Marxist policies, it's definitely not Obama. One need only to look at the outgoing administration for that!

On Friday the 14th, I was informed by my General Manager that earlier in the week one of our customers closed their doors. This customer's business was doing well this year as we were hoping it would bring in about $1 million this year. Expectations were even higher for next year even in this economy.

This customer is owned by one of the fifty wealthiest men in America.

I asked my GM, "Why?"
He responded (paraphrased), "_____ told his staff that he didn't like the outcome of the election. He was not going to operate this company in an economy under Obama."

The company employed about 50-70 people. The money from the closure will be put into real estate.

Even though it's been two weeks to digest, I admit that I'm still dumbfounded.

Letting 50-70 people go in this economy because he has his little elephant panties in a wad because Obama won is beyond stupid.
