WASHINGTON ? Democrats are growing impatient with President-elect Barack Obama's refusal to inject himself in the major economic crises confronting the country. Obama has sidestepped some policy questions by saying there is only one president at a time. But the dodge is wearing thin. "He's going to have to be more assertive than he's been," House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank, D-Mass., told consumer advocates Thursday.
Frank, who has been dealing with both the bailout of the financial industry and a proposed rescue of Detroit automakers, said Obama needs to play a more significant role on economic issues.
"At a time of great crisis with mortgage foreclosures and autos, he says we only have one president at a time," Frank said. "I'm afraid that overstates the number of presidents we have. He's got to remedy that situation."
Obama has maintained one of the most public images of any president-elect. He has held half a dozen press conferences, where he has entertained question after question about the economy, the mortgage crisis, and the flailing auto industry. He called for passage of extended unemployment benefits _ which has passed _ and even a stimulus package if possible before Jan. 20. But he has stayed away from trying to dictate remedies for the toughest problems Congress is confronting: the auto industry's troubles and how to spend the $700 billion bailout.

Rightys are predicting that BO will renege on all of his campaign promises, Leftys are bitching about him not being tough enough; the guy doesn't take the oath for another month and a half! This is the 5th POTUS election I have been able to vote for, and I have never seen anything close to the amount of attention that BO has gotten as a President Elect. I can't recall any major buzz in the pre-inauguration period, and they usually waited at least 100 days in before making any sort of analysis. One things sure, BO is on a hot seat that Ty Willingham never had nightmares about, and he's getting [censored] from both sides. He better have some brass balls, just to get him thru the first year.

It's not like he's been dealt a winning hand. He needs to be in damage control...when he actually takes office. Notice the guy who should be taking care of this mess hasn't shown his face since the beginning of the bailout talks. Considering the huge mound of [censored] Obama will have to deal with starting in Jan, I don't think he'll [censored] with his socialist agenda until his second term . I can't imagine that there won't be a deficit for the first two years, but that's not his fault. He's got to take what he's given (which is a complete mess), and try to turn it around. I like the supporting cast he's amassed so far (except for Hillary), give him some time (read: at least until his first day on the job).

I think his supporting cast probably [censored]es off you and socialist19 more then it ever would me. Now I could be crazy but I seem some of his decisions perhaps contradicting the point that Bush was the worst president ever in things like tax cuts and possibly Iraq. I'm willing to give the guy a fighting a chance. He hasn't appointed as far as I can tell a single progressive and several people McCain might have appointed (Timothy Geithner and James Jones), Volker's an old Reagan favorite and the rest are the best that could be hoped for by conservatives out of a Democratic President.

I was just glad to see Bill Richardson involved. He was close to being my favorite candidate in the primaries. Don't be surprised at the Gates holdover. Remember, he was the second Bush SoD, and has done a great job cleaning up Rumsfeld's mess. It would be foolish to change horses at this point. The pick of Geithner as Treasury Sec. seems to be popular across the board. If you didn't expect pragmatism from Obama, you weren't listening close enough. He was never for an extreme left government (healthcare plan notwithstanding). I don't see it so much as pragmatism, but a deep understanding and respect for the Constitution and how the Fed Gov was intended to operate.

The revolution the moveon.org and dailykos crowd prayed for isn't coming. They think Castro's Cuba is how the Constitution and Federal Government should be interpreted.

So we're supposed to feel sorry for a guy standing at a podium with an "Office of the President Elect" seal on it who has been heaping as much attention on himself for the last 2 years as humanly possible in order to become leader of the free world...because now there's a lot of attention on him?

Help me out here and list the recent elected Presidents who have been attention shy when trying to run for POTUS. Name recognition equals money and votes. Obama had a clear experience deficit, that Muslim name thing, and he had to overcome that somehow. Basically, he has made very smart choices so far in beating every opponent he has faced. Both his good luck and his incredibly bad luck was in running for POTUS in a year where the country fell into a bucket of [censored] just as was about to take office, and the current President is not interested in getting his hands dirty.
