| Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate. |

President Elect Barack Obama (post-election-official)
I'd like to congratulate Sushi for this very special moment and achievement in her life. . .
![]() So, everyone is calling it, Obama wins. I'll delete all the foregoing and below soon, but let's separate discussion of the next administration from the ridiculousness of the political extremism and silliness, on all sides, that is the election run of the candidates. So let's have a new thread, for a new administration, for a new conversation on what needs changed, what we hope Obama will help change, and what we fear Obama might change. Cheers, everyone, on what appears to be a clean, successful election. We have a new government coming. It will be ours, all of ours, so let's see what we can expect of it, and us, in its actions and ours in discussing it. |

I couldn't be more pleased right now. This country never ceases to amaze me.

Best of luck to him. I hope that he surprises me in a good way. As a business owner he scares me, but I am willing to watch and hope for the best.
I just pray that he is the pragmatist that everyone seems to think he is. |

I believe/hope Obama will surprise many by governing as a moderate. If he is able to involve moderate Republicans in the process, he can be a successful President. If he works only with Democrats, 2010 will be just like 1994.

One thing that doesn't get talked about much is the way they revolutionized the way you run a campaign. This was a 21st century versus a 20th century campaign. The one thing they understood from day one was that it was all about votes and they focused on that every single day while the McCain camp struggled to find a message. This campaign will be studied for years to come.
Obama won without any major interest group or really even his own party pushing his candidacy. He truly has won his own mandate. It was his operation, not his party's. He seems like the kind of guy who is smart enough to figure out how to make the best of that for the country. |

Which I hold to be a very good thing, as did this country's founders. |
