Columbus Public Health announces first H1N1 clinic for children | The Columbus Dispatch

Columbus Public Health will host its first H1N1 vaccine clinic for children on Wednesday.
The clinic will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ohio Historical Society, 1982 Velma Ave. in Columbus. The Historical Center is located just off of I-71 at 17 t h Avenue (exit 111).
The clinic is for children 6 months to 4 years old; pregnant women; caregivers of children younger than 6 months; and health care workers required to provide direct patient care to patients who have H1N1.
Health care workers who don't have to care for flu patients, such as dentists or psychotherapists, are not eligible this clinic and will be turned away, said Dr. Mysheika LeMaile-Williams, the city's medical director.
People 2 to 49 years old who fit within the priority groups listed above and are otherwise medically eligible will be given FluMist, the nasal vaccine.
Shots are being reserved for those who can't have FluMist, including pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses such as asthma.
The vaccine is free.

The line at today's vaccination clinic

Parents with babies and toddlers, pregnant women, caregivers of infants and health-care workers were lined up by the hundreds today for the first public city H1N1 clinic open to children.
Shortly before the clinic opened at 2 p.m., city officials announced that the lot at the Ohio Historical Society would be closed to newcomers.
A line of at least 1,000 people were in a line that wrapped around the parking at 1982 Velma Ave.

The only children eligible for today's clinic are those 6 months to 4 years old. The other priority groups have been eligible for previous clinics, and may be vaccinated today as well.
Assistant Columbus Health Commissioner Debbie Coleman estimated that nurses would be able to vaccinate about 1,200 people today.
The clinic runs from 2 to 5 p.m.

Health-care workers who don't have to care for flu patients are not eligible for vaccine today.

to put this thing in 1918 perspective youd need to infect 90,000,000 americans and kill 1,900,000 or pretty much knock off all of city with a metro area larger than columbus, say vegas or kc

its a sad reality, though overreacting has become the status quo. i mean oh i cant go to work my nose has a sniffle, oh blah blah, suck it up folks. not saying dont be smart but dont become this pansy flamsy no touch icing society. heed steves warnings, take it serious, yet dont die on a mole hill either...

Novel Influenza A H1N1 knocked me flat on my arse. Almost two weeks in hospital and another two weeks recovering. When I entered the hospital, a secondary pneumonia infection had set in and I could not even walk more than ten paces.

However, if you are diagnosed within the first day or so of manifesting symptoms and you begin TAMIFLU, then your prognosis would be far better than mine. My wife and kids caught it from me but really had very normal flu symptoms.

So, over-reacting? Hell no. Don't take this thing lightly.
