Apparently Christians claim to be perfect? She fessed up to it as the biggest mistake of her life and that she isn't perfect, nor are any Christians. I think this whole "smear campaign" is ridiculous. She spoke an opinion...if people didn't want to hear it, then people shouldn't have asked. Obama also disagrees with gay "marriage" but he doesn't get blasted. If she would have avoided the question or said she agrees with gay marriage, nobody would even know her name right now, as the winner of the contest. She is an easier conservative woman figure for the media to attack than Palin, so they've focused on her now. Btw...I'm not defending her whole video deal, just pointing out that she has owned up to it as a mistake.

If Prejean hadn't put herself out there as the moral sentry for the nation, she wouldn't be faced with the [censored]storm. I frankly don't much care if her blowjob videos make her millions, as I don't see porn as being the worst pox ever visited on humanity. But you'd think, given her past behaviors, she could have put a lid on her own self-righteous opinions. People in glass houses, and all that.

No. Christians don't claim to be perfect. But people like Ms. Prejean want to deny rights to gays because they are violating God's Laws (i.e., one of those "not perfect" things) while reserving to herself the right to lie about - in no particular order - her application to the various pageants about posing for nude shots, how old she was when she posed for nude shots, making and sending self-made sex tape of her masturbating, lying about when she made the sex tapes, and then knowingly filing a false lawsuit that said she had fulfilled all of her obligations of her Miss California pageant contract which specifically forbade entry in the pageant if applicants had ever made nude photos and/or sex tapes.

To sum up, she claims the right to be less than perfect (we can agree that lying, engaging in pre-marital sex, making at least one masturbation tape even though her boyfriend says she sent him 14-20 tapes over three years, and lying in her lawsuit - ya know, "bearing false witness", are not OK according to the Bible) and be able to marry who she wants.

She thinks this while strongly advocating the denial of those same marriage rights to others because - get this - they don't follow the rules of the same book that sets the rules that she herself violates.

She is a hypcrite. A lying hypocrite. A judgemental lying hypocrite.

So a mod should change the title of this thread. Because when people call her a judgmental lying hypocrite they are not "smearing her", but rather offering a very cogent and demonstrably supportable factual character assessment.

First, as long as gays have the same "right" to marriage (as it, as an institution, has historically existed) that straight people have (to marry someone of the opposite sex) then they aren't being denied any current rights (rather they are being denied, if anything, the ability to expand the existing rights to include same-sex couples). And since I don't see where premarital-sex-indulgent, nude-photo-taking, sex-tape-making, masturbating individuals are forbidden from marriage, I don't see the hypocrisy that you are getting all upset about. Other than that, it seems like a pretty good rant.

Absolutely. Undeniably. Never would say otherwise. But the right to an opinion does not include the right to an opinion that is safe from criticism. People confuse the two. Because someone says your opinion (not your opinion T, but ya know...) is wrong - or full of [censored] - or ignorant - does not in any way mean that your right to that opinion is being infringed. This where I point out that this is exactly like saying "blacks can marry other blacks, so denying them the right to marry whites is not discrimination."

Then YOU say that the state has an interest in child rearing, and that gay marriage has no historical support....then I point out that young infertile couples can marry - and postmenopausal women can marry old coot ED husbands....and YOU say that courts have held that marriage is not a fundamental right under strict scrutiny....and I point out the Dred Scott and Bowers v Hardwick decisions while saying "Not so fast my friend" - and then BKB shows up again and talks about why he is not showing up again.

Well, the point is that premarital-sex-indulgent, nude-photo-taking, sex-tape-making, masturbating individuals are not forbidden from marriage while gays are barred. Same book. Both break rules. One gets to marry and one not. So I do not get what you do not get. Despite the efforts to justify the ban on gay marriage using secular grounds, anyone who is intellectually honest* will admit that the reason gays are held in such low esteem is due to the two majority religions in this country believing that being gay offends God's Laws.

Everything else we talk about peripherally is a direct or indirect societal response to that core belief system.
