The smear campaign kicks into full gear. Apparently you're a hypocrite if you believe marriage should be between a man and a woman, but also pose in a swimsuit photo suit.

I understand linking to hot air might discredit the thread because it is a righty news blog. I used it because the internal link has several other links to different media outlets.

The author makes a tremendous point. Apparently NBC news thought it fit to show the taped confessional of the VA Tech killer but deemed a style of photograph that's run in every Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue for the past 20 years "to hot for TV!!!OMG!"

The whole story is absurd. Who the [censored] really cares what some contestant in a beauty pageant thinks about gay marriage. Who the [censored] really cares what Perez Hilton (who?) thinks about said contestant.

To all the news sources covering this, shut the [censored] up and cover some real news for once.

The media doesn't give a [censored] about either person really, it's just a convenient excuse to belabor an issue that no one really wants to talk about all that much but that they want to extensively cover for whatever reason.

Please Woof - it is entirely Ms. Prejean's right to think however she wants about any issue. But when you put yourself in the public eye like she has, you lose the right complain about the public having an opinion about you. And had she said her gig and gone away, that would be one thing. As it is, she is now voluntarily doing NOM ads. Again, that is her right. But as many, many people, me included, have strong feelings about NOM and Ms. Prejean's views, she has to expect to get some blow back, and if she thought she could run around and do a 09 version of Anita Bryant's 1980s gig, she is a [censored] poor student of recent history.

Yeah. That seems silly to me. Hyocritical in fact. But among those that would have a problem seeing her shapley ass and [censored] would be some of her conservative Christian buddies. And it is OK for some to think her a twit because she chooses to interpret scripture to allow her to compete in (let alone get breast implants right before) the contest, when many Christians could reasonably think her unquestioned focus on her own physical appearance to be contrary to Biblical Scripture on vanity, or that allowing pics to be taken without a bra with your buttcheeks hanging out is not Biblically sanctioned.

Because the point here is that she, despite reserving to herself the sight to interpret the Bible and run her life accordingly, seeks to deny others their right to interpret the Bible and run their lives as they see fit.

She can think that showing her ass and [censored] is not wrong, and she can do this safely knowing that no gays will be urging the state to pass laws prohibiting underwear models from being able to marry because she is sinful and contrary to God's Biblical teachings.

OTOH, she is very publically associating herself with those urging the state to pass laws prohibiting gays from marrying - because gays are sinful and acting contrary to God's Biblical teachings.

So hypocrisy is in play. But not just on one side.

Far bigger celebrities have said outrageous things of a political nature with no coverage from NBC and other "mainstream" media.

The issue for them wasn't who said it, but what she said. They didn't like it, so they made an issue of it.

You're trying to pin this on race? Poll after poll notes that this was driven by religion and income, not by race. Of course there were some minorities that voted for this, and that sucks, but they're not solely responsible. At least the New England states and Iowa have it right. It's only a matter of time.
