Similar but not an exact fit. Brown's rhetoric was far more inflammatory than the quote so beloved of Sonia's opponents - IMO

And I was making that statement at the time against the backdrop of the anti-immigration issue rhetoric made by GOP leaders. If you think I am saying that democrats are not as ideological and partisan in opposing appointments as Republicans are, you are misreading me.

Well, then people on both sides of the issue are too darn stupid to realize that Puerto Ricans are full blown US citiznes and can go wherever they please w/ their US passports-or was the chance to bash the GOP too good to process that logic.

I'm anti-ILLEGAL immigration. There's a process to be followed. If people who want to get into this country can't follow a process, we shouldn't allow them to stay.

This has flown under the radar in a few discussions I've listened to regarding Sotomayor and illegal immigrants. I generally haven't bothered to engage in arguments about her as it all seems a bit manufactured, on all sides, but it is funny to see people (again, on all sides) mistakenly associate her with immigrants. She's an American.

I'm glad to see someone point that out-- though I haven't really seen argument on our board that calls her out as some type of immigrant. . .

Well, I favor illegal immigrants being sent back - if they get caught. If they're clever enough to evade the INS, then they've passed the first test on being talented enough that we want them here.

As someone with an advanced degree in psychology, I was pretty disappointed in the recent SCOTUS reversal of the Ricci case. I haven't had time to put together a cohesive argument how this violates the last half century of research on racial bias in testing, but Drew Westen (who is a psychologist) does an excellent job in this article.

I'm not at all disappointed. Since when is it the SCOTUS's job to identify whether a test is the most appropriate measure of likely success in job performance? If this test has been ill-chosen, then New Haven will suffer the consequences. So long as the selection process is not explicitly discriminatory, there should be no basis for complaint (except by the taxpayers of New Haven, who deserve the best firefighters their money can buy).

If you want to see stupid selection criteria relative to job performance, I have two case studies to recommend: the Oakland Raiders and the LA Clippers. I don't think the Supreme Court should have intervened to prevent the Clippers from signing Zach Randolph nor the Raiders from drafting Darius Heyward-Bey in the early 1st round, no matter how flawed the selection process.
