Say what you want, but be civil about it. How can this understanding crumble so quickly when it comes to politics - a topic we all know to be MUCH less important?

Seriously, I'm appalled at the whining in this thread. The topic was discussed at some length. Before a consensus was reached, there was the involvement of multiple moderators whose opinions usually represent opposite sides of the political spectrum. It's not an effort to suppress or shape opinions, it's an effort to remove the squabbling, namecalling, and animosity that have driven many BPers away from reading the threads in the political forum. It's also an effort to return to a more civilized exchange of ideas.
If somebody can't read the guidelines and abide by them, they deserve to get banned from the political forum. If that action results in any blowback onto the other forums, infractions toward board-wide bans will result. We sincerely hope that doesn't happen, but we're not going to tolerate political garbage leaking into other areas of the board. How freakin' hard is this to understand? Stop the whining, stop trying to test the new limits, and get with the revised program. Or get banned from the political forum.
