Political Conversation and Debate This forum is not a temporary one. It will exist up to, and after the presidential elections. Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate.

Kerry

But as early as Aug. 5, when the Swifties were just getting traction, Edwards wanted to push back, hard. McCain had just told the Associated Press that the Swift Boat ads were “dishonest and dishonorable... the same kind of deal that was pulled on me.” Edwards wanted to begin a speech, “I join with Senator McCain in calling on the president to condemn this dishonest and dishonorable ad.” But Kerry headquarters said no. Stephanie Cutter, the boss of the Kerry communications shop, explained that the campaign didn’t need to give the Swift Boat vets any more attention than they were already getting.

Edwards played along, but his aides were indignant. They warned the veep candidate that the story was already out of control and about to get worse. Historian Douglas Brinkley, author of a wartime biography of Kerry, cautioned that Kerry’s diary included mention of a meeting with some North Vietnamese terrorists in Paris. Edwards was flabbergasted. “Let me get this straight,” the senator said. “He met with terrorists? Oh, that’s good.”

He met with the Koreans that we supported as well as the North Korean terrorists at those meetings, they were peace talks, and they weren't exactly secrets, more like well publicised meetings.

He was there with a group of US Reps and Senators among others...as is documented in his testimony in front of the Senate, he was discussing possible condition for a return of POWs, damn liberal terrorist

Maybe you should tell John Edwards that, he was the one to say that they met with terrorists. It is really starting to sound again like the Dems handlers are the ones who blew this election. Just like they did with Gore. They don't seem to understand that clinton was a different type of canidate. Something about him made people levetate towards Him and want to like Him. Something that very few canidates on either side have. The Republicans have figured this out and know how to overcome odds, it seems as if the Dems still think they should win just because they are not republicans.

I agree with you BF to a point. Clinton was a fascinating Character.
Not being a liberal senator with a 20 year voting record is what helped him the most. There was no real record of him being on the far left and by many standards he was not.
If a candidate can come acroos as not so liberal leaning, he is electable.

Clinton was also from the South, so he was able to carry the 2 or 3 states necessary to win (may have been more, but you need 2 or 3). Exactly one northern Democrat has won a Presidential election since 1945...and that was Kennedy, whose personality and charisma propelled him to a win that some say Nixon still could have challenged due to voter fraud. Until the Dems make some inroads in the South, this will continue.

Agreed Bucklion. The Democratic party needs to find a way to reach the southern voters. How to do this? I guess I'll follow suit with what others have said, it's by moderating your party. I consider myself a moderate democrat, and find myself cringing when I hear some of the very far left folks talking, the same way I do when I hear the far right. I feel that you have to mold your party around your base (I'd say 70 % are moderate), because you will automatically snag those other 30% just for being a democrat.

John Kerry wasn't the answer for the Democratic party, I realized this during the primaries. I was much more the the John Edwards bandwagon than Kerry, because I realized his ability to connect to the southern vote.

If I had to pick a good democratic candidate, I'd throw out Evan Bayh. A senator from Indiana (conservative state), who served 2 terms as a governor. I feel that he is the only northerner besides Obama who could draw southern votes.

Agreed 100%, DaddyPhatSacs. As for who will run in '08, I think the Dems will pick someone from a red state, so your suggestion would make sense. I'm a fan of Edwards as well, but given that he lost his Senate seat, I'm not sure what his political future holds.
