I think the other stat was runs scored. He won't pass Rose in hits, but he's got a real shot at the other categories.

ScriptOhio: "Do you think A-Rod will eventually pass Aaron in home runs?"
Maybe. He's gotta stay healthy. It will be difficult for a righthanded hitter to chase a record like that in Yankee Stadium.
Luca: "I don't know if he will stay long enough...unless he does not have a ring."
A-Rod is signed through 2010, I believe. He's got at least 5 more seasons after this one. And lets hope he gets a ring or two in that span: the Yanks have $50 million coming off the books this year, another $50 coming off in '07, won't have to pay luxury tax until 2009, and have a new Stadium (i.e. new revenues) coming in. So George might go on a spending spree ..
BB73: "I think the other stat was runs scored. He won't pass Rose in hits, but he's got a real shot at the other categories."
There's no way anyone comes close to Rose's record. Other than 511 & .367, that record is pretty much unbreakable. You'd have to get over 200 hits for 21 seasons to break it .. look at Aaron & Musial (both of whom played FOREVER): they're at 3,600 (or so), 600 hits (the equivalent of 3 to 4 more prime seasons) away from Rose.

That was Rickey Henderson with the runs scored record.
It's amazing that 1 guy is ahead of the pace of so many of the major records.
He's going to win that ring sooner or later so you have to wonder how much longer he'll be motivated to play after this contract. Maybe another 5 year deal after the current deal expires.
He's a big time stud, no doubt about it.

The reason he's ahead of all those other guys, when compared to their 30th birthday is that he reached the majors a couple weeks before he turned 19.
He had 41 homers, 160 runs, 144 RBI's, and 259 hits when the season ended a couple months after his 21st birthday. Most guys have just have their first cup of coffee at that point.
If he plays 8 or 9 more years and stays healthy, he'll have an awful lot of impressive career stats.

Brutus1: "That was Rickey Henderson with the runs scored record."
A-Rod projects out to 123 Runs this season. That would give him 1,244 Runs lifetime at the end of this season.
Assuming A-Rod plays 10 more healthy seasons (till the age of 40), he would need to average 105.1 Runs per season to break Henderson's Career Mark of 2,295. Very attainable, if he doesn't get hurt.
Using the same logic, A-Rod should end this season with 1,900 hits lifetime. That would mean that he'd have to average only 110 hits over the next 10 seasons to reach 3,000, and would need to average 235.6 to reach Rose (that one aint happenin').

If he can average 180 hits in the next 10, he'd be close to passing Henry Aaron for 3rd place all time. That's a boatload of hits.

The Captain, Derek Sanderson Jeter's going to have a shot at Aaron's place on the hits list. He's projected to have 1,935 hits lifetime at the end of this season. He's a only a year older than A-Rod too.
If he can stay healthy, he's certainly on pace to be the Yankees all-time hits leader, and maybe 2nd All-time in the A.L. (Ty Cobb).
