Normally I would agree, but if Freel showed us anything this year, it's that he can no longer handle the rigors of being an everyday player. Believe me, I am one of the biggest fans of Freel that there is, but when Griffey went on the DL earlier this year and Freel was starting almost every day in center, it took a toll on him and he went into his biggest slump of the year. He's a great sparkplug in the lineup, but he has the potential to burn out if overused.

I'll give you Wickman if you give us Phillips back. I knew that was a bad move for the Tribe.

A valid point. I wonder if using him in the infield instead of the outfield would make that less or more.

Reds got [censored]ed.
I am all for trading Lopez and Kearns but they simply have to be worth more than 2 set up men. Clayton, Harris and Thompson are garbage. I would have just stood pat for 2006 if this is all I could get and trade them during the off season for something more.
As far as the win now thing goes, anyone who honestly thinks a team who just lost 20 of their last 29 games is a legit contender needs to have their head examined. I don't care how weak the NL is this year.
We haven't won for 10 years, have some patience and build a truely solid organization from the farm system on up. Fix it on the fly gets you [censored] like this, selling the organizations prime chips for below market value so we can compete for a WC and maybe get a quick first round exit for our trouble. [censored]ing great.

Basically this trade is a "we better do something so that the fans think we care".
As for Freel not being an everday player. Centerfield and 2B/SS are a lot different. He should not get burned out playing 2B. The reds need him in the lineup day in and day out. If you dont want to play him everyday then give him a rest every 5th game or so.

Prime chips??? a dime a dozen outfielder and a SS with less range than my dead grandmother??? Now, if the Reds had traded Homer Bailey I'd be right with ya...but I do believe the value being placed on Austin Kearns and HUMA Lopez is a little on the high side.

Trust me I wanted both gone and I don't reall like either player. However as far as position players go these two are just behind Dunn in what we have of value(I consider EE untouchable).
I like what this trade does for our pen but I just have a hard time believing thats all those 2 players together are worth.
