the pen was great on wednesday. however, betancourt is terrible when pitching back to back days. wedge must be retarded to not know that by now.

however, once again, the failure to execute offensively is what hurt this team. the sox are able to manufacture runs in a way that cleveland can only dream of. and that's mostly because the batting order after the 4 spot is filled with some dumbasses. barfield and marte are still young and learning. however, someone needed to tell the bottom half of the order that after burhle went out, to start working the count and stressing the pen. but, they started hacking foolishly and let the first guy get in a nice groove and give chicago 3 innings. And it's not like they swung at good strikes early either.

Indians try too hard, let Sox rookie off hook
Friday, April 06, 2007
Scott Priestle
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CHICAGO ? Two games into the season, Indians hitters had so dinged the White Sox pitching staff that Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said he was worried about developing an ulcer. Then the Indians knocked Mark Buehrle from the game in the second inning yesterday with a well-placed line drive and sized up another target.
Rookie reliever Nick Masset had been easy prey in the opener Monday.
"In a situation like that, you have to go for the kill," Josh Barfield said. "That?s what we were trying to do. But we forced it instead of letting it come to us, like we did the first two games." With that, the offense that terrorized the Sox for two days barely worked up a worry. The Indians were forced to fight with fundamentals, which have not been comfortable weapons in their hands.

Legend remembered

Barfield will wear Robinson's 42 on shirt

By Sheldon Ocker

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CHICAGO - Josh Barfield is only 24, but unlike many players his age, the Indians' second baseman has been schooled in Jackie Robinson lore.
``I think a lot of players now know who he was but not what he went through,'' Barfield said of Major League Baseball's first black player. ``He did a lot of great things. My great-uncle (Albert Overton) played against him in the Negro League and used to tell us stories about him.''
Major League Baseball will honor the former Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Fame second baseman April 15 with Jackie Robinson Day.
Either C.C. Sabathia or Barfield, both African-Americans, has the option of wearing Robinson's No. 42 for the occasion.

Indians have no excuses for bad loss

By Terry Pluto

CHICAGO - It's was good to hear the edge in the voice of Eric Wedge after the Indians lost 4-3 to the Chicago White Sox on Thursday.
The Indians manager made no attempt to say that it's great to win two out of three in Chicago, or that some of the Tribe's mistakes can be traced to youth, cold weather or the old ``these things happen'' excuses.
The Indians lost a tight game in Chicago and have only themselves to blame.
Jhonny Peralta failed to move up a runner with a sacrifice bunt, then struck out on a pitch in the dirt that he would've needed a 6-foot shovel to hit.
Veteran Roberto Hernandez made a poor throw on a pickoff play at second base in the ninth inning.

Jacobs Field plaques honor great players in Indians history
Friday, April 6, 2007
By CHRIS BEAVEN

LIVING LEGEND Bob Feller?s plaque in center field proclaims him the ?greatest pitcher in club history.? ?I know most every one of these players,? Feller said last week during a ceremonial opening for Heritage Park.

CLEVELAND Tucked away behind center field, the past lives on in Jacobs Field.

Walk through the area and within minutes, long-ago moments ? some a century old ? come to mind. Addie Joss throwing a perfect game in 1908. Ray Chapman?s tragic death 12 years later. World Series victories from another generation.

The roll call of names and nicknames creates more memories. The pitching mastery of Rapid Robert and Sudden Sam. The hitting artistry of Tris, Nap and Shoeless Joe. The power of Colavito. The importance of Doby?s excellence.
