DENVER -- The bars along Blake and Market streets were still going strong into the early morning yesterday, as Colorado Rockies fans celebrated what only a month ago seemed unfathomable. Inside nearby Coors Field, the Rockies players sprayed Domaine Ste. Michelle champagne around the clubhouse, topped it off with Coors beer and celebrated what only a month ago seemed unfathomable.

Baseball does not have an America's Team, and it should have one since baseball is America's sport, or so it becomes along about this time of year.
I nominate the Colorado Rockies for the title, even if the Rockies are restricted by name to a single state. It is still better than the New York Yankees, state, city or state of mind.
The Rockies are what America means, or what America should mean, varied and hard working, decent and honorable, upright and compassionate, all of the things that winning a championship just naturally embodies.
