Ironically, You may get better value for Peralta given that he has some tiem left on his deal and is reasonably cheap... Quote:
I for one am kind of happy about LaPorta.... (though predictably annoyed aobut the pitchers, as for the PTBN, it had better be a position player with power.) And here's why. He's not Grady Sizemore, Coco Crisp, Franlin Gutierrez, Ben Francisco, Torii Hunter, Jacque Jones, Trevor Crowe, or some other goddammed 5 "tooler." Yes, I threw some Twins in there. Why? That's what Shapiro wants his outfield to be.... or wanted. Problem with Shapiro is that he is the anti-John Hart. He wants starting pitching, speed, and flexible multi-tool players that can play multiple positions... And, that's fine to some degree, I do like an athletic team... but... [censored]... we only need so many guys who can hit .260 and hit 20 hrs and steal 20 bases (if Wedge would ever let them.) But, we need guys who can rake... I've come (much to my chagrin) to appreciate the many talents of Casey Blake... but... he's not a cornerstone player. Can you win with him at 3rd? Sure, but you need pop, oh I don't know, in your corner outfield spots and at 1st base? Juice rumors aside.... if we can ssume pronk has been hurt for a while... and... may come back and be a reasonbly good hitter... and Victor, with Sizmore, I think you only need to find one more professional hitter and you might be fine with some younger guys elsewhere... Luckily, since everyone not in the equation above pretty much sucks, you have a lot of flexibility. (Hey, the multi-tool player thing gives you something.) (Even if you disagree on Pronk, we're stuck with him.) I'm not sold on anyone at this point... I mean, I don't have a lot of reason to beleive that Ben Francisco is anything more than the next Jody Gerut. And Ryan Garko is a slightly better version of Ben Broussard. I do tend to thing that those guys are a bit better, but need protection. (If Peralta were to be traded, I don't have a problem going into next year with Cabrera at SS and a rent a 2b depeding on Barfield... at least we'll have plus up the middle defense-- and if we're reduced to 2b shopping, lets find a damned leadoff hitter, please) Bottom line is, we need some mashers, Laporta appears to be one, and I think we'll see him in Cleveland soon, too. NOt so worried about the Starting pitching, we have arms there.... that Shapiro has actually seen to... at least in quantity. I'd also like to see the aforementioned Wes Hdges sooner rather than later, too. But, while I'd say no one player is safe, no need to trash the whole thing right now. |

1. LaPorta 2. (PTBNL/Green) 3. Bryson .... .... .... .... 4. Johnson I hear great things about Bryson's slider. He strikes out a lot and is being looked at as a reliever down the road, possibly a closer (oh how the Indians need one of those.) |

From a Indians' fan point of view how can the Twins lose two 20 game winners and probably their best outfielder and still be in contention. We lose Hafner and Martinez two months into the season along with Westbrook and Carmona and we are in last-place in our division. I have always heard good things about our farm system and player development and I guess my question is what the hell happened
![]() I guess my other question is how would you define the Indians. Most teams are either power hitting teams with excellent pitching or a speed team with excellent fielding and guys that create runs. This team even with Hafner and Martinez does I really have a definition. |

For one, Ron Gardenhire is one of the best managers in baseball...we have Eric Wedge.
Minnesota is awesome at scouting/development, most of their roster is homegrown. We used to have a good farm system a few years ago, but years of poor scouting/bad drafting have left it depleted. |

Maybe even Victor?

I'll be shocked if anybody wants Byrd or Betancourt, they've been awful this year. I'm not crazy about the idea of trading Victor, but if the right offer comes along, who knows. I expect Blake to be moved and would love to unload Peralta as well.

Not that it's really very important...but just to be a nit picker

Update on the PTBNL: Appears it is now between OF Michael Brantley and 3B/2B Taylor Green.
Brantley is a very interesting prospect who has been tearing up Double-A ball. Just turned 21. He has Great speed (25 steals already down in Huntsville). Batting .324 on the year with 15 doubles, 4 HR, 34 RBI. 39 BB compared to 18 K's. Everything looks pretty good to me. I guess some project him as a top of the lineup type of player. Baseball America said he has the best plate-discipline in the Brewers system. On the other hand, Green appears to be a great looking prospect in his own right, especially at a position of need (2B) for the Tribe.. Brantley is a closer to impacting the big club sooner compared to Green. I think the Indians are in a great position and can't go wrong with either. |

Agreed, I was wanting one other good prospect in the deal and it appears it's gonna happen, so color me satisfied. I'm excited about LaPorta's power potential, particularly without knowing if the old Pronk will ever return. Green is a good looking INF prospect that could allow Asdrubal to move to SS and Brantley could eventually be the guy that allows Grady to slide down to the middle of the lineup. Hopefully one of the pitchers can contribute down the line too.

I hope so. Crowe has looked good at every level, hopefully that continues. He'd be an ideal leadoff man because he's fast, doesn't K too much and gets on base (.325 BA/.415 OBP in Akron). Hodges is hitting pretty well down there too (.307-10-69). We need these two to continue to develop and become legit MLB players badly.
