I hadn't even noticed that with the pitching getting shellacked again.

This is the worst team in baseball folks, hands down. Their record is buoyed by a strong two weeks in May when everybody was somewhat healthy and the SP was lights out. Take that away and they probably have the worst record in baseball. 100 losses would be a good bet.

Yeah, it's gonna be a blood bath.

It's hard to see when this streak could end. It could go on for a while now that we don't have C.C. as a stopper anymore. Laffey hasn't looked great his past few starts, Lee didn't look too good the other night. I'm guessing Weaver probably fills C.C.'s spot. ()...it could be a while unless the bats get hot for a night or the opposition gets a poor performance from one of their starters.

Detroit --- The Indians entered tonight's game against the Tigers with 24 players, one under the limit. They will correct that problem Wednesday when right-hander Juan Rincon will be added to the bullpen from Class AAA Buffalo. The Indians recently signed Rincon to a minor-league deal after he was released by the Twins.

They were a player short following Monday's trade of C.C. Sabathia to Milwaukee. They will need a starter Saturday against Tampa Bay. Newly signed Jeff Weaver isn't an option right now because he hasn't pitched since mid-June. David Huff still needs more experience. Matt Ginter is a possibility.

Rincon is 0-1 with 6.75 ERA in four appearances at Buffalo. "He's shown a good arm and he has a ton of late-inning experience with a championship team," said manager Eric Wedge.

Detroit -- The make-or-break trip -- minus one day at home to trade reigning AL Cy Young winner CC Sabathia -- ends tonight. The Indians were broken long ago in mind, body and spirit, but the hairline fractures continue each and every night. The Tigers hit four home runs Tuesday to beat Jeremy Sowers and hand the Indians their ninth straight loss, 9-2, at Comerica Park. The nine-game losing streak equals the longest since Eric Wedge became manager in 2003. That nine-game losing streak came in 2004.
"The deeper you get into something like this the tougher it can be to get out," said Wedge. "What you have to do, and we've talked about this so many times over the years, is be able to separate from one day to the next. We've always done a pretty good job of that in the past. Regardless of how bad yesterday was, we come out here today and it's a new ballgame. We're fresh with our attitude and approach and it gives us a better chance to win."

CLEVELAND -- A year ago there was little cause for alarm when Indians manager Eric Wedge walked toward the mound tapping one of his arms. More often than not, the bullpen saved the day. The combination of Rafael Perez (1.78 ERA), Rafael Betancourt (1.48) and Joe Borowski (45 saves) was among the best in baseball.
What was a strength, however, has become a bad "B" movie with a Western theme. Now, when Wedge calls in the cavalry, the Indians are in trouble. After 88 games, the bullpen ranks last in the American League in ERA (5.14) and saves (14). It has blown the third-most saves and allowed the most home runs and highest batting average by opponents in the league.
Perez (3.55 ERA) and Betancourt (5.67) have slipped, and the bullpen as a whole doesn't touch last year's 3.73 ERA. The problems can be summed up by Borowski, who was designated for assignment last week, his days with the Tribe likely over.
