There is no way that they can send Laffey down and keep Byrd in the starting rotation. That would be absolutely stupid but knowing Wedgie and Shapiro I wouldn't put anything past them. The latest on Westbrook is that they think he will be ready to join the starting rotation again at the end of May.
I don't know how effective Byrd would be coming out of the bullpen plus the reason that they just sent Mastny down was because there is no real need for a long reliever. I would has to think that they would not release/trade Byrd because you never know if one of the other starters might go down during the season. They need to keep him around for a safety net but he would have to get some work somehow and the Indians really don't use long relievers that much. Maybe again something is going on but I can't think of any team that would want PB.

After Matsny getting sent down I could see Aubry getting the callup for a few weeks, and then moving Byrd to the bullpen at the end of the month. You just don't play around with someone pitching as well as Laffey. Plus Laffey proved he was good enough last year.
This rotation is pretty sick right now.

I know it and you know it that Laffey should not be sent down both do the egg-heads in Cleveland know that. The only problem with bringing snow Aubrey is that he plays 1B and he has not played that much this season in Buffalo. I don't know if he was hurt at the beginning of the season or what. I think we have enough 1B on the roster and don't know why they would bring up another one. Really have no idea who they might call up. Maybe we are in for a big surprise

Has some pretty good speed and he has been swinging the bat in the last couple weeks a lot better than what his average indicates. Has some pretty good speed so probably will be used as a situational player. I cannot believe this is a long-term callup.

the fact that he can play quite a few different positions and runs fairly well makes me think that this is a straight call up for interleague play next week, as cleveland will be on the road for a few of those. |

CLEVELAND: Here he comes again: Mr. (Almost) Perfect.
There is an argument to be made that nobody has pitched with more expertise or effectiveness than Cliff Lee in his first six starts of the season.
He will go to the mound again tonight in the second game of a doubleheader against the Blue Jays, hoping to improve on a 6-0 record and an 0.81 earned-run average.
''I'm just focused on my next start,'' Lee said. ''I get a game plan, and I use it to attack the hitters. I have to get past my last start; I can't dwell on it. When you do, that is when things blow up on you.''
Ask Lee why he has been virtually unhittable and he will say, ''I'm commanding my fastball better and staying ahead in the count.''
Sounds too simple, but for a starter whose pitches move with the funkiness associated with being left-handed, those fundamentals can make a huge difference. Also, Lee realizes he is in a rarified zone that probably won't last forever.
