ST. LOUIS -- As Adam Dunn once said after leading the National League in striking out, "It's nice to lead the league in something."
He didn't mean it.
Aaron Harang leads the league in something, too, but he won't say it's nice to lead the league in something when the category is most defeats.
Harang gave up two home runs last night in Busch Stadium while absorbing his 17th loss, 8-5 to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Oh, yeah. In addition to tying San Francisco's Barry Zito and Detroit's Justin Verlander for most losses in the majors, Harang gave up 35 home runs this season and the only reason he didn't lead in homers is because Houston's Brandon Backe also gave up two yesterday to finish with 36.

I recently realized the affinity that the Diamondbacks had with Adam Dunn. Another Dback, Mark Reynolds, recently set the MLB single season record for strikeouts, and is now over 200 for the season. While having a player such as Reynolds already on your team, what's another 180 from Dunn? He must look a little more average to them. Thank the baseball gods that it's no longer in a Reds uniform.

Cincinnati puts lid on season with ugly loss

ST. LOUIS ? The Cincinnati Reds didn't go away like a sly, slinking fox. They went away like a wounded fox with a fear factor complex.
They couldn't have made a louder thud than if they had, as a team, leaped from the top of the Gateway Arch, losing their last five games of the 2008 season.
And the finale Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals was a microcosm of the way the Reds played when games counted.
The Reds, playing defense as if the baseball was a round piece of dry ice, were obliterated by the Cardinals, 11-4.

Aug 12 The Brewers have given up on Hall, designating him for assignment Wednesday.

Aug 13 3B Bill Hall is unlikely to become an Oriole, MASNsports.com reported. Hall, designated for assignment by the Brewers on Wednesday, hasn't produced enough for the Orioles to consider taking on any of his $6.9 million 2009 salary.

I saw the Bill Hall DFA and it took me a day to remember what thread that [censored]er was in.

That bit of brilliance has always stuck in my head. The shock and awe factor of encountering a mouthy Bill Hall fan I guess. You just don't see very many of those so when you do, you remember it. At least I did.

Yeah, apparently there was more than one person out there sniffing the Bill Hall glue. The GM was obviously quite high on him, should have backed out his vs Reds numbers and gotten a more accurate picture of what he really had there.

Drew Stubbs has been called up from Louisville and is batting leadoff tonight. taveras was put on the DL. Pretty excited to see if the Reds have found a leadoff hitter that can actually get on base.

Bill Hall is what he is....and he came along about 10 years too late too.
