If the Sox came into 2005 acting like the teenager who finally got laid for the first time senior year, in 2008 they?re going to be the teenager who?s been getting some for a while ? he knows how good he has it, but he also knows to be cool. Some of his neighbors haven?t gotten any in years and then got a really bad outbreak of zits (Baltimore). Some have never even held hands with a girl (Tampa). Some keep getting dates but spill spaghetti sauce on their pants early and can?t get a goodnight kiss lately (Toronto). And some keep getting a willing girl to their car, only to prematurely ejaculate into their underwear (you know who I mean).

I'm sure they're going to put a net up in left, like they did when the Dodgers played there in the late 50s. I don't know the dimensions, but it used to be 251 to left.

Boston owner grants Yanks' Steinbrenner membership in Red Sox Nation

After new Yankees boss Hank Steinbrenner lambasted the notion of Red Sox Nation, Boston principal owner John Henry has offered an olive branch to his American League East rival.

Henry has decided to make Steinbrenner the newest member of Red Sox Nation complete with membership card and certain perks that only members can obtain, according to the Boston Herald.

"I'm a big Hank fan," Henry wrote in an e-mail to the newspaper. "Just to ensure he knows how cool Red Sox Nation is, [Saturday] we officially inducted him as a member of Red Sox Nation and we are sending him his membership card giving him access to an array of options including our newsletter, bumper stickers, pins, Green Monster seats and a hat personally autographed by David Ortiz."

Gussied up for a private dinner benefiting the Mike Lowell Foundation, Papelbon, who declined an invitation to be on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," and teammates Pedroia, Alex Cora, and Lowell, danced in the Cuban-themed "Dancing with the All-Stars" event (check out photos). It raised $190,000 for the Foundation through live and silent auctions, including a $32,000 bid on an authentic 2007 World Series ring. Lowell won the competition, which Papelbon called "rigged."

"I haven't had a heart attack, I think I've come close," Francona said. "My chest hurt I was laughing so hard. I got a headache I was laughing so hard. Pedroia is a moron. I mean, you can write that. Pedroia is a moron. He looked a puppet on a string."

Pedroia, for the record, ripped off his shirt to reveal "Daddy" written across his chest with glitter, throwing his shirt to team owner John Henry.

"I can't tell you," Pedroia said, of his reasons, laughing. "It's personal . . . I thought my body pulled it off and [Papelbon's] didn't."

I was told by a USC fan on Tigerforums that it will be 191 to left for this game!! That's smaller than the T-Ball field my son plays on.

Colon impressive in bullpen sessions, aims for March 15 start

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Red Sox reluctance to give Bartolo Colon rave reviews keeps getting tougher.
The 2005 AL Cy Young Award winner pitched his second impressive bullpen session Wednesday and is on schedule to make his first start on March 15 since signing a minor league contract on Feb. 25.
"The expectation was there," Boston pitching coach John Farrell said after watching Colon throw 41 pitches, "but I think initially and, again, this is very premature, he's on the positive side of those expectations."
Still, the Red Sox don't want to rush him.

Papelbon signs deal
The Boston Red Sox and closer Jonathan Papelbon agreed Thursday to a $775,000, one-year contract, nearly doubling his salary.
Papelbon was among 18 Red Sox players who agreed to one-year deals, putting Boston's entire 40-man major-league roster under contract.

Definitely a steal at that price. I'm confident they'll get a long term deal worked out, this is just a stop gap to get him through the year.

It's strictly business OBJ. The good thing about young talened players like Papelbon is that they're cost-controlled for the first 3 years of their contract. He just had his pre-arbitration salary doubled though. Not a bad little pay raise.

Papelbon's payday is coming.

Now the Red Sox must wonder for at least one more day when their ace can pitch again.

"We'll just have to wait and see how it feels tomorrow" was Beckett's only comment three hours after he felt back spasms and called catcher Jason Varitek to the mound following his sixth warmup pitch.
