Hall of Fame
So I was listening to the radio today and they were talking about the players who will/might retire at teh end of this year. They were talking about Clemens, Shilling, Mussina, Glavine, Smoltz, and a few others who might retire.
Hear is the thing that bothered me about the conversation and it is in arguement that I have heard about Eddie Murray, and a few other people who have eventually gotten in to the hall. They were saying Shilling will have a harder time getting into the hall because of his relationship with the press. This [censored]es me off to no end. I am sick and tired of the media thinking that a player should bend over backwards to do [censored] for them. Guess what, if the player is good enough to be in the hall he should be in the hall, who gives a [censored] if he [censored]ed of the poor little beatwriter, or even the big name writer for the NYT or somewhere else. The Media is getting more and more to the point where they think they are more important than the sports they cover.

It's been that way for at least the last decade, or at least since E!spn began focusing more on "entertainment" and sensationalism as opposed to what actually happens on the field. There are a ton of assholes that have gotten into the HoF in every sport. I'm more interested to see what happens when alleged cheaters like Clemens and Bonds come up...

It's been that way for decades. The press was calling for the "asterisk" weeks before the commissioner acted on it, in reference to Roger Maris.

As far as Schilling is concerned anyone with postseason stats like 11-2 2.23 ERA and 4 complete games isn't goin to be out for long. Not to mention the bloody sock and three WS rings.

Bloody sock? Everyone knows that was just Kruk's ketchup.
however, I do think Schilling was one of the better pitchers in the steroid era, not great, but pretty good. Upper echelon I'd say, and even though his regular season stats aren't blowing anyone away, it doesn't matter because he was blowing people away when it mattered. In the postseason.
