Some Minor League notes
Travis Wood is killin' it in Double-A He's only allowed 8 ER in his last 10 starts, and his total ERA on the year is 1.21. Another pitching prospect Zach Stewart is yet to give a run in Louisville in the 6 games he's pitched out of the bullpen. While he was a SP in Double-A he went 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA. A few other prospects to note: Chis Heisey .343 Avg with 16 HR's 54 RBI's between Double-A and Triple-A Todd Frazier .314 Avg with 10 HR's and 49 RBI's Juan Francisco .253 Avg 16 HR's 56 RBI's 75 Strikeouts and 15 BB His plate discipline would fit in well with this year's Red's team. I wish Krusty would hit Hanigan 2nd so Votto could actually hit with someone on base. Would that make too much sense to have the player with the 2nd highest OBP % on the Reds hit 2nd for him?

Catcher can't hit second, if he gets on base he'll just clog them up. |

![]() Saw during yesterday's game that the Reds were 43-47 this year, with a team BA of .248, a team ERA of ~4.22, and 5.5 GB of first. Last season, they were 43-47 with a team BA of .249, a team ERA of 4.45, and 10.5 GB. Of course, Chris Welsh was surprised by this because "this year's team is a lot more fun to watch." Really? More fun? Based on what exactly? This team isn't any better than last year's. The Central just sucks more. In defense of Welsh, during a pre-game the other night, he was talking about the fact that you have to look at more than just the record and games back. He compared this year's club to last year's Phillies and very accurately assessed that there is no comparison. The addition of a RH power hitter won't make this a championship team and management shouldn't be trading young prospects for anyone right now. Caught me by surprise to hear him say that. |

My stepson and I wound up bailing on the Saturday night game after it looked like the rain wasn't going to move through Cinci for an hour or two, so I heard a good bit of Doc Rodgers on Extra Innings during the delay as we drove back up 71-N.
I was very surprised to hear him say that the Reds should be flipping Harang and Arroyo for young lefties, moving Owings to the 'pen as a long reliever/PH-pitcher, and generally be looking at incremental improvements right now with an eye towards being ready for a run in 2010. Cited the Griffey/Masset deal last year of what the Reds need to be doing right now. Appeared to me that he is well reasoned, insightful, and has an idea of how to build a winning club. I can see why he lost his Assistant GM job with the Reds. |

11 days untill the deadline. All the talk is about what a sellers market it is. The Reds have plenty of chips. The season is lost.
Yet in all the trade rumor talks the Reds are only mentioned as possible buyers and thats for Rolen. ![]() |

Not any longer.
Dodgers Eyeing Reds Relievers: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com The Dodgers can help themselves in more ways than one if they play well against the Reds this week. As MLB.com's Ken Gurnick points out, the Dodgers can push the Reds further from contention and give themselves a better shot at obtaining one of the Cincinnati relievers they've been watching. The Dodgers are trying to improve their 'pen, so they've been eyeing Francisco Cordero, David Weathers and Arthur Rhodes along with O's closer George Sherrill. Matt Kemp for all 3 sounds fair. |
