Well, Pitchers and Catcher are to report soon.... I guess that means the Reds are officially out of contention for this year's pennant.
Worry not... there's always next year..... |

Here's Johnny Bench,Joe Morgan and George Clooney doing a T.V interview a few days ago:
Good to see them back in a Reds uni. |

That bit with them and Clooney on the Ellen show made me wonder. Who's eaten more snatch in their life, Clooney, Ellen or Joe and Johnny put together?

Nice article from John Erardi on Fays Blog.
http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs...cincinnati.com Gives a pretty accurate picture of what the speed and defense crowd can expect from the Reds this year. |

Well, since Bench is gay, you can eliminate him from contention. |

![]() I being a lifelong Reds and Bengals fan, continue to have eternal optimism (i.e. delusion, stupidity, etc.) that this is the year that my team comes through. The reds have some potential this year, first, they play in a weak division, second, they have some live young arms who may not realize that they play for the Reds therefore they are expected to suck, and the same goes for the positional players, there is potential and as long as they don't realize the Reds perennially suck, they have a chance. |

The Cubs might have something to say about the weak division point but other than that I agree. There is reason for optimisim due to overall organizational youth (low minors are looking very interesting) but this particular edition of the Reds (2009) will just suck a different way than they have been sucking the past decade or so. It will probably take a while for the negative run differential to catch up to them so the first couple of months might be watchable. |

Oh I could easily see that. The Reds have done it several times this decade. People start talking wildcard then the June swoon hits, usually triggered by a west coast road trip or the start if interleague play. Problem is, it gets about half the fanbase believing they are close/be buyers at the deadline and the other half saying sell at the deadline/get better for the future because this is fools gold. How many times it has to be proven as fools gold before people stop going ape[censored] over being less than 10 games out of the WC is a mystery me. I usually quit believing something by the 5th or 6th time it [censored]s me over, but that's just me, I'm a pessimist by nature. ![]() I wouldn't be at all suprised to see the cycle start anew in 2009. |

I think we are causing ourselves un-due anguish by worrying about it. Especially you, Jax, I wonder sometimes if it is even healthy for you to be a Reds fan.
We have witnessed enough since '90 to know that MLB has passed Cincinnati by, and that the Reds aren't going to win the NL Central over CHC and STL or even HOU or MIL in 2009. If the Reds start off 15-5, will you at least let me swim in my own oblivious-ness? |
