All the Reds had to do is offer Abreu 5 mill and he was theirs. Abreu would of went for the $$. Dont they all? |

![]() No they don't. But in case you were wondering, he was looking for $50 million over 3 years. Out of left field, Abreu joins Angels | MLB.com: News |

Considering he was coming off a contract where he was making north of $16 million per, asking for a bit of a pay raise is to be expected.

The owners used the economic downturn brilliantly this past off season. No one (FA's) outside of the superstars made anywhere near what they would have made the year before. Funny how baseball mirrors life, the rich got richer and the middle class got to suck on it. ![]() |

His price was set even before the Yankees were eliminated and everyone knew it for the most part. Next year we'll see what he gets, but my guess is he'll return to the east somewhere for something around 10-12M.... |

All of those proposed moves are good ideas.
This kinda reminds me of the saying, "If my aunt had balls..." We're talking about the Reds. I'll be shocked if they make even one of those moves. Instead they're probably scheming for a way to bring the next (or the actual) Rheal Cormier to the team. |

That's the problem the Reds are in ... they've got three starters and the 'pen to contend in a seven-game series now. They're really only short a couple of bats (the WT playing everyday problem notwithstanding). The Reds are wrapping up a 4-under .500 June pending today's results and slid a whopping half game off the pace being set by the Brewers and Cards. Really, they were 2.5 games back on May 30, and now they're 3 games back on June 30. All it takes is some fluke collision with Ryan Braun running into Pooholes at first base during a Brewers/Cards game and suddenly the Reds have the best team in the division. [censored], they kept pace with both teams ahead of them the entire month of June despite not having three-quarters of the starting infield, Volquez, their everyday catcher playing 1st, Phillips playing with a broken thumb, a bunch of un-signed FAs that made the roster out of spring, and Willie T batting 0-for-an-entire-[censored]ing-month in CF. The Central looks pretty mediocre this year. I'm not ready to hit the reset button just yet. |

According to the article linked above they were hot and heavy after DeRosa. That tells me they think they have a winner and are just missing that last little piece which of course is, say it with me now...a guy with verteran presence who can give you proffessional at bats and knows how to win. Thinking this team is a Mark DeRosa away from the playoffs is up there with thinking that signing WT was a good idea. Both leave me less than confident about our FO's vision for the future. |

They can't even beat the freakin' ROYALS.

Another stellar outing by Yo YO. 5 1/3 6 ER 10 hits and Dan Haren takes him deep. I cant believe so many Reds fans wanna bash Micah when Arroyo is going out there every outing and is effectively picthing BP.

Well, I know he has a few clinkers every year but Bronson has the 2nd most wins in the last calendar year (behind Halladay). I'd rather have a guy who typically gives 3-4 of 5 quality starts rather than a guy like Owings who puts up 1 in 5 if you are lucky.

Again with not bunting Dickerson. Bottom of the eighth, one run game, Richar on first, none out. Dickerson flashes bunt on first pitch, wild pitch, Richar to 2nd. So instead of then bunting him to third, they let him swing away and he pops out. Ramon then singles to left, which would have tied it. Instead, we now have runners at the corners and two outs (thanks to a Bruce pop out).

I had to break down some shipping cartons and missed the bottom of the 9th.
I come back and see the Reds tied it up, but the box score has this: Quote:
