Ryan Howard with a stolen base and no throw?

Posada bobbled the ball and made no throw.

Yet another reason why the MLB needs replay. Howard just scored the tying run and never touched the plate, he dived right over it.

Help me if you can on this, and I coached baseball for 17 years and really don't know the answer.

Once the Umpire gave that weak "safe" signal did that make Howard officially "safe?" Could the Yankees have appealed the play? If so, I can't believe that they (or anybody) doesn't have a dude in the clubhouse watching TV with a phone in his hand to call the dugout after seeing such a play.

I was never real big on the rules.

Peace

I honestly have no clue either. If the ump was unsure in that situation he should have made no motion when Howard turned to him and asked if he was safe. I don't know if replay or an appeal would have been available on that play either.

Yea, well thanks for nuth'in!

If I had to say one way or another, I'd guess that "safe" signal means offically "safe." In other words, it would seem pretty bogus if the ump called the man "safe" then called him out for not touching the plate upon appeal. However, NOT making any call would to me look like a signal to the defense that he indeed did miss the plate. Either way, I'm pulling for the Phillies so it doesn't bother me, but it's a shame that a game of this magnitude could have turned on such an obviously blown call. That being said, I'll admit that a home plate ump in baseball has about no "good" angle to position himself in for these types of plays at the plate.

Peace

I'm rooting for Carsten Charles to get the win tonight.....Utley is the best player in baseball right now. I think hands down. Guy is a beast.

Can you imagine a team that would have a 1-2 starting rotation of Cliff Lee and C.C. Sabathia?....they'd be sick.

Both guys are in their prime now, and it does suck watching (basically) career Indians be the #1 on each teams roster.

Aside from 95' and 97' it sickens me to think about the series with the Bo Sox in 07'. Nobody wanted to throw a strike against them...Boston just took walk after walk. Jacoby Ellsbury was on ESPN the other talking about game 1 and said in regards to C.C. "you ahve to be patient and make him throw you strikes. Take him deep into counts." Boston just sat on their asses as Fausto and C.C. nibbled at the plate. End rant.

Is 3 runs enough for arguably the best closer ever?

I don't know what was bigger for the series for the Yanks. A-Rods homer yesterday or Damon getting that extra base on the steal today.

End rant.
Yeah. I'm with you on everything.
