Pedro Back to Boston Looks More & More Likely
Breaking News: CBS-4 in Boston reports that the Martinez "social visit" went so well that Pedro and the Red Sox are very close on a three-year deal worth $40 million. Pete will be re-signed soon.
Looks like "The Terminal" meeting went well....

Is there any word on how this will affect the Pavano negotiations? Can they sign Pedro, Varitek, and Pavano?

Its not likely... but not impossible... and you know that if Theo thinks that's the best way to eat the innings... he'll do it... but I tend to think he'll look for two cheaper pitchers.

I don't know about that. If I'm the Red Sox, I sign Pavano. They only have two position players making big money (ManRam & soon to be Varitek). Ortiz is a bargain, and they will always get offense in Fenway.
They can piece together a great offense around the two centerpieces, and flaunt the best rotation in baseball. I'd sign Pavano in a heartbeat.

Many on Sons of Sam Horn seem to think that they will go for Pavano too, and try for Varitek, to a point, and fail. They are going to go cheap-o on a shortstop, I guess. They are waiting for Hanley to be ready (probably in 2006).
That doesn't leave much room for the bullpen and bench, however. . .

But you are thinking the way the Yankees would think... not the way Theo thinks.... and Pavano is way overpriced.
Also- how much longer is Ortiz a Bargain? Which will be in the back of his head.
