He's trying to make a mountain out of a molehill, if that. I seriously doubt most NBA fans spend time differentiating between americans, canadians and europeans, whereas I do believe they see white vs black. Manu Ginobli and Tony Parker sure got a lot of media love the last few years for being non-"white".

Nash is Canadian. Besides, virtually all "white" Americans are of European descent. He's implying there's some sort of racial difference between a white European and a white North American (US/Canada). A black American is not racially different from a black African...

My point is this between Dirk and Nash. Nash is far more accepted among the media and fans alike for what he represents - a white guy excelling in the NBA. Thus, the first thought among a few when won being, "score one for whitey." He speaks great English. He went to an American university. And quite frankly, there's nothing about him (other than his fetish for soccer) that screams anything other than a white guy excelling the NBA.

Dirk, on the other hand, represents the international takeover of basketball, which is seen by some as a bad thing. Certainly, it is not the breath of fresh air that Nash is for white America. He speaks English, but it is fractured. He didn't attend an American university. And quite frankly, just about everything about him screams German excelling in the NBA.

As far as his credentials compared to Nash... they're obvious.

1. The Mavericks have been consistently good over the past 7-8 years since his arrival. It's no coincidence that he is the only major contributor that's been on the team over that period of time.

2. This year, they took a huge leap forward and can now be classified as a contender. Unlike the Suns, who need Amare to compete for the NBA Championship.

3. He is, far and away, the most important and most indispensable piece of that team. Nash has Marion. Dirk has Stackhouse, who has been a cancer for every other team he's been on except the Mavs.

4. Dirk's defense, unlike Nash's, has actually improved to the point where he's only slightly below average. Nash, on the defensive end, is well below average (funny how he gets a pass on that, while white America slams the NBA because there's no defense, yet they love Nash.)

5. Of the three elite teams in the league right now (Pistons, Spurs, and Mavs), he has been the best player this year. Duncan is my favorite player in the league, but he hasn't even been the MVP of his team this year. (see Parker). Chauncey is indispensable, but the Pistons are still a top 4-seed without him.

6. Without Dirk, the Mavs don't even make the playoffs. (probably the same is true for Nash and the Suns). Who would lead them? Stack? When he led the Pistons in scoring, they couldn't make the playoffs, even in a weak East.

As for Lebron and Kobe... 30/7/6 and 35 pts/a game with Zydrunas Illgauskas, Lamar Odom, and the poo poo platter. Both teams easily made the playoffs and would be hoping for Adam Morrison or Rudy Gay if they weren't on the team.

Parker is black-a black Frenchman, but still black. Ginobli is Argentine-technically Hispanic, but pretty much Italian-like 60% of Argentinians.
Argentinians are pretty much Europeans,IMO.
I thought it was pretty funny when Ali G was ripping on Nash for being Canadian in the NBA pre-season commercials on TNT.

Just to illustrate what in fact did take place between Billups and Nash. Notice how Detroit took over those games in the fourth quarter - where Billups steps up, and quite frankly, is head and shoulders above Nash in my opinion.

EDIT: In fact, check the recap of those games. I'm really going to have to rest my case here. Nash did not deserve the MVP.
