Still if you look in a eastbay mag or at a finish line you see a whole section dedicated to Melo shoes, shorts, shirts the whole deal, and for Wade you just see the shoes. It all has to do with that jumpman, put that on anything and it will sell.

Didnt know that Nike bought Converse, but the DWade shoe is still the only one at all that you see on the shelfs...

I understand money, but that doesnt tell me why they get labeled as thugs.

Basketball is often stereotyped as 'thuggish' more often than football... however that label is thrown around constantly with Da U, especially in light of their fight. I remember similar comments after SC & UCLA got into a 'woofing' match during a timeout.

Unlike other sports, they are violating rules when they want to get physical. Not saying this is fair, just things I think lead into the 'thug' stereotype.

Football players cover their bodies in standard uniforms. Distinguishing uniform parts or taking off your helmet is illegal. Physicality is praised and part of the sport (even a little 'chippiness' is part of the war).

Honestly, basketball doesn't have the same outlet for aggression and 'chippiness' as hockey and football... and so their blowups are treated as bigger deals.

Then I guess physical has a large range of what applies... heck soccer players in the goalbox can say the same thing you just did. I really don't think either sport compares in the least to football or hockey.

Oeople overlooked Haynesworth? He got reamed on every board/media outlet I visited. I heard all sorts of derogatory terms thrown around about him, thug being one of them.

I wouldn't stereotype Bball players because they are black and have visable tattoos......there are alot of black pro athletes and they have tattoos...and most of them aren't "thugs"....How many black baseball players you see acting like that???? And in football???? (although football has some exceptions, and I won't name names, T.O.).....hell I'm a PA-C (physician assistant) and I see patients all day long...and I have visible tattoos...I don't thing people look at me any different because I act professional...its all how you handle yourself.....And my point is that NBA players DON'T handle themselves (majority of them) in a professional manner....They are "thugs" that came off the streets and don't really know anything else....They have been taught how to somewhat be professional but they will always be "thugs"...and when things go down like what happened tonight you see that....to alot of the NBA players Bball isn't just a "game" is a game of the streets. And you can see that in their expressions on the court sometimes.....IMHO....

Why are athletes above the law? When is one of these sports brawls going to end in criminal charges? I started wondering about this during the Miami brawl when Reddick was swinging his helmet around. But seriously, if it isn't in the rules of the game and is an intentional act I think charges should be brought, if only to send the message that these people are supposed to be playing games. If you want to fight, take up boxing.

How long will it take for the NBA to seriously address this?

just to elibrate more on your point jwin......the answer to your baseball question is no...Ex: last night the fight started on a "hard" foul.....now in baseball if someone gets hit (say a star player, i.e. Albert Pujols) you DON'T see people fighting.....the oposing team justs waits until their star player comes to bat and they throw at him.....it part of the game...last nights fight just shows you that something seriously needs to be done in the NBA.....
