What's also odd about their skirmish is that the 7-footer did the biting. Years afterward, many folks remembered the incident but thought that Ainge was the one doing the biting, given his pesky attitude and the fact that Rollins was a much bigger guy.

Now that theres been a little bit of time between the fight and now, I really don't think it will be that big of a deal down the road as people make it out to be. Obviously, the sucker punch will always be remembered, but in reality it's not the worst thing that could have happened. Arrests and trouble with the law is much worse, and show how you really are away from basketball. I don't think there any of us on here that haven't lost our cool at one point or another, and while I'm not justifying Carmelo hitting Collins, it was a mistake, and he is still very young. I'm sure Carmelo was [censored]ed for Collins taking a cheap shot on his teammate (Smith) and that Collins was egging him on the whole time. Even in the beggining Carmelo looked to be trying to break up the fight, and didn't appear to want to really make it worse.
It's a shame that it happened, but as long as Carmelo continues to succeed, the incident will minimize. Put it this way, I think that spitting in an opponent's face is far worse than hitting a guy that cheap-shotted your teammate. |

Melo lost his sponsorship from Northwest airlines. He was on the cover of their in-flight magazine and the company pulled all the copies from the planes.
