I think they seem to be looking for a player to make a splash. Barnes is a decent player, but I am not necessarily sure he is the type of player that Danny Ferry invisioned being able to sign once the FA period started. I could be wrong though.

With all that is being bandied about via twitter and other rumors Ariza would take the MLE. The word out there is if the Lakers won't give more than the MLE, Ariza would rather take the MLE from another team. Then again, if a team with cap room offers more than the MLE then that is another story.

And like I said previously, Artest's only options are this, re-sign with Houston (unlikely due to the Yao situation and a possible rebuild), a sign and trade or taking the MLE from the Lakers or Cavs, and those MLE deals would probably be a 1 year deal so he can be a free agent in 2010 when all 30 teams will have cap room (or at least seems like all 30 teams are leaving cap room for 2010)

With limited teams with cap room (and most of them being bad teams not willing to use that cap room) and the economy this summer is truly a case of the rich getting richer by getting high level guys at the MLE.

Regarding Barnes, he is a fine player. But he will be a guy that ends up signing after all the dust settles. And he will be available for the bi-annual exception. But if the Cavs get an Ariza or Artest, I can see the Cavs looking at Frye for the BAE.

The talk was that the Cavs were looking for a #4 as plan A. Plan B is looking for a good 3 and moving LeBron to the 4.

Barnes has been talked about, along with Parker, as names to use for the BE
money.

Think they can get Frye with the BE, 91 ?

I hope they get him. Shaq and Artest would give the team some serious toughness and some great weapons for Lebron's game

I don't know Boston's cap situation, but they just offered Sheed the full MLE for 2 years.

They can have him. Their team should get a discount on oatmeal, although the senior citizen discount already applies to most of them.

Then they won't be able to pick anyone else up...and I don't really see how he helps them. He's so sporadic it's not even funny. KG has become the leader of the team, despite Paul being there longer. KG demands a balls out effort.

Over/Under he and KG get into some sort of spat by All-Star break?
