You can't draft stars this late in the draft unless you get really lucky. Arthur still needs a lot of work. He's only a year older than Hickson. It's not like Arthur or Koufos are finished products. Aside from Beasley, I doubt a single PF/C prospect in this draft averages over ten points a game. It's simply impossible to find that type of quality this late in the draft.

I also do think a big needed to be the pick. A SG would be nice, but we need to get some young depth in the frontcourt since Z, Wallace, and Varejao are likely leaving soon.

Hickson will be a good player in the NBA. He plays good offense and defense. He's strong(not some stringbean). He's legitimately talented; he doesn't just get dunks and put backs; you can run plays through him.

Give the kid a chance before you fold the franchise. He'll surprise most of you.

I don't know much of anything about Hickson, so I'll just wait and see.

Just reading the scouting reports, I like Hickson way better than Arthur. Sounds like Hickson is stronger and more assertive than Arthur.

Hickson or Arthur or Kosta...it doesn't matter much. None of those guys would help us win a title next year. Everyone is improving or at leats trying to improve their team tonight, and we are the bystanders yet again. Something could happen later but.....

I think Milwaukee is looking to play Richardson at the 3 and Alexander at the 4 with Bogut at the 5.

Obviously Redd plays the 2.

Don't see Cleveland getting Redd anymore. I see Milwaukee trying to push for the playoffs instantly.

Nets will have enough money in 2010 to sign LBJ and have another star on the team. It's going to be tough to keep him in Cleveland and keep the franchise in Cleveland.

Well, like you said, you're likely not gonna get any of that picking at 19. I would've preferred a more polished player like Arthur or a potential creator like CDR, but the point is, nobody drafted here is going to have a major impact on LeBron 2 years from now. We were just looking for a little help. Hickson isn't a slam dunk, but it's not a crippling pick at least.

There's gonna be cap room to make a signing next summer or a possible deadline deal to get LeBron some help. Ferry showed in February he's not opposed to shaking things up. People writing LeBron off already two years from now need to get a grip. There's plenty of time yet to make moves.

Well I have cooled off some, but I'm still quite [censored]ed.

Baron Davis needs to be attack plan A. Michael Redd will probably be a Buck forever, and it looks like we could have some competition outside of Detroit this year.

If we pull in Baron, or an equal quality player, you can throw a big grin right on my face. Right now however, we just took 3 steps backwards (maybe not Cleveland, but with everybody else stepping up).

I agree with what you are saying NFBuck. Here's the thing though.....

New Jersey TRIED their damnest to acquire Carmelo Anthony before the draft, with the intent of still signing LeBron during the 2010 off-season. The Nets will have enough money to get LeBron and bring in another superstar and it won't be hard luring them to Brooklyn.

There's a way to go before it's worth worrying, but don't be surprised to see LeBron leave Cleveland for his best friend and a better chance to win a championship. Apparently we're too hamstrung to make this team a legit threat at the moment.

Keep in mind it's important to create a report right now with teammates. Telling LeBron come contract time that we're going to bring a star in doesn't help. You have to make the roster so strong, LeBron would have to be an idiot to leave. That is FAR from the case right now.

It's a fair point, but if Ferry is aggressive enough, a deal is out there to be made. That is why you see so many getting worked up.

Take into consideration the Cavs draft history and your question becomes abundantly clear.....

The draft is only one area where you can improve, and you can really only do that in the lottery(though I still think the Hickson pick is a good pick). There's still a whole summer of potential trades, not to mention in-season trades.

I think Ferry has shown he's willing to make moves, especially big ones. Wally's contract alone should be a nice chunk of trade bait this coming off-season and season. If a trade doesn't happen(which I doubt), then we'll have 15 million plus to work with next year.

ESPN is reporting that Arthur has "an undisclosed kidney condition" that is causing him to continue to be passed over in this draft. Makes me glad that the Cavs didn't pick him.

Hopefully the Cavs can buy their way into the second round and pick up a hidden gem.

I agree, and I think LBJ possibly leaving is in the back of every Cavs fan's mind. But I don't think now is the time to start panicking when we'll have a lot of money to work with come deadline time and if not then, next summer. I trust that Gilbert and Ferry know the competition for LBJ and will do everything humanly possible to put a team around him to convince him to stay. Now if we bomb out and nothing is done by next summer, I'll panic.

Whats up with all the negativity? I feel like I just stumbled on the Indians board for a second. Relax, there are no instant impact players at 19. This is a strong-bodied forward. I would have liked to seen the Cavs take CDR but a big man is a much bigger need.

We need to give Ferry at least to the trading deadline before he is crusified for not making a move. A move will be made, but I've never been counting on it being by tonight. This pick was very blah, but I've never seen the kid play. Hopefully he can play some energy minutes this season and turn into a good PF in a year or two when they will need another big.
