NFL expected to play in Mexico City
Cards, Niners expected to play in Mexico City
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/3465492
NEW YORK (AP) - The first NFL regular-season game outside the United States is expected to take place Oct. 2, when the Arizona Cardinals face San Francisco in Mexico City.
The game is expected to be a Sunday night contest televised by ESPN. It would be a home game for the Cardinals, who rarely sell out their stadium but could draw 100,000 or more in Mexico City.
"We're working on it but it's not finalized yet," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday.
Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said at his annual pre-Super Bowl news conference that a regular-season game outside the U.S. was likely this year.
Michael Bidwill, Cardinals vice president and general counsel, declined to discuss specifics but told The Arizona Republic that playing such a game is "very unique and appealing prospect."
"It would be a historic and unprecedented event," Bidwill said.

You'd think they would've gotten some better teams to face off for such a big even.

Well that is one way to turn off Mexico to the NFL with those two teams.

I think the Cards have a shot to win the division next year.
What I'm more concerned about, is who will be the home team and who will be away? I'm guessing they picked these two and that they'll make Arizona the home team so that there is minimal fan support loss. Arizona never puts anyone in the seats anyway.

I am a little suprised by the teams playing in the game, these two teams are not exactly leading the league in the marketing department.

By using these two teams, the NFL has nothing to lose. They're expecting approximately 100,000 fans to attend this game. That would be close to 8 times the amount of fans they could expect from the game if it were in Arizona. You don't want to pull a marquee matchup that would draw alot of fans from their home stadium. Plus, even a Niners-Cardinals matchup has to be more exciting than a soccer game.
