Can't say I'm surprised either.
Craig's future has always been in medicine. Good luck to the future M.D.

We all have to admit it was a big surprise he started so many games last year.
Plus he stuck it to dorsey one last time Sounds like a good backup career to me

Some other team will pick him up, he'll play for a few more years as #2 or #3, make another million or so, and then get down to doctoring...not too shabby.

Chicago's News Release on Krenzel
I'll always have fond memries of his first throw from scrimmage, in his first full start. TD. Wonder who the likely bidders are to pick up his services as a #2 or #3?
Krenzel as a Bengal anyone?

Bears waive second-year quarterback Krenzel
By Larry Mayer
June 14, 2005

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Bears on Tuesday waived second-year quarterback Craig Krenzel.
<TABLE cellSpacing=5 cellPadding=0 width=248 align=right border=0><TBODY><TR><TD>
</TD></TR><TR><TD class=V1>Quarterback Craig Krenzel was 3-2 as a starter with the Bears last season. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>The 2004 fifth-round draft pick from Ohio State appeared in six games with five starts as a rookie, completing 59 of 127 passes for 718 yards with 3 touchdowns, 6 interceptions and a 52.5 quarterback rating.
After replacing an ineffective Jonathan Quinn at halftime of a Week 7 loss at Tampa Bay, Krenzel won his first three starts, thanks primarily to a Bears defense that generated 10 takeaways, 13 sacks, 2 touchdowns and 1 safety in victories over San Francisco, the New York Giants and Tennessee.
Krenzel hurt his ankle in the first half of the Bears' Thanksgiving Day loss at Dallas and missed the final five games. He was placed on injured reserve Dec. 7.
With Krenzel's departure, it appears likely that Kurt Kittner will be invited to training camp after leading the Amsterdam Admirals to the NFL Europe championship.
The well-traveled quarterback was named MVP of World Bowl XIII Saturday after completing 15 of 28 passes for 239 yards and 2 TDs in a 27-21 win over the Berlin Thunder.
Kittner, who played for Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner at the University of Illinois, appeared in eight games with four starts for the Atlanta Falcons in 2003, completing 44 of 114 passes for 391 yards with 2 TD passes and 6 interceptions.
Kittner spent last season out of football after being released by the Falcons, Bengals, Giants, Patriots and Steelers in a five-month span.
