ESPN has learned that Barry Sanders will attempt a comeback with the Lions this coming season. According to a team source with knowledge of the situation, Barry's agent, David Ware, contacted the Lions about a month ago to begin a feeling out process, stating "Barry is merely exploring some notions". Sanders' retirement rocked the football world, primarily because he was a player many believed was still in his prime, and because he walked away from millions left on his contract. (It also crushed many of his die-hard fans)
During his retirement, Barry became engaged to Sandy Ryne, who shortly there after became his wife. Then last season, Sanders attended the Lions final home game of the year at Ford Field. The Lions while not in contention, apparently impressed Sanders enough for him to think they are just a player or two away from being a serious contender, he started to realize how much he missed the game. Sanders, who last played in 1998, had said repeatedly in the past that his retirement was for good and that he was fully satisfied with his career in spite of never experiencing true post season success.
Sanders has always been an enigma of sorts, a throwback to a time when athletes were humble and had a genuine respect for sportsmanship but he wouldn't hesitate to step on your face on the way to the goal line. With his reserved, almost meek demeanor and his hitherto disclaim of rings and money, some have even gone on to say he is a living cliche. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004, Sanders will become one of an elite group of athletes to play their respected sports as hall of famers.
The Lions have not officially commented other than to offer a cryptic "at this time this is a non issue" statement, but a press conference is expected to be announced by the middle of the week.

Dang, was it *that* long ago?
I gotta say, this sounds pretty doubtful. Barry Sanders was probably the greatest football player I had the pleasure to see play in person (well, Eddie is up there too  ). Growing up in Toledo, I always tended to follow the Lions more than the Browns or Bengals. I always felt bad for Barry in that the Lions never really contended, except maybe one playoff appearance. If this is true, I hope he does well and wish him all the best!

When I read that title...I thought Ali is making a comeback? LOL.
Then I read Barry SAnders and laughed. GOAT? Hardly. Dude isn't even the greatest at his position. Dude isn't even the greatest during his era!
But alas, it's been 6 or 7 years since he played.... gee... I'm all excited for an old guy to return...
I just don't get it. Why can't they just stay retired? It would have been better if he realized he left early after 1 or 2 years.
Too long has passed.

I was very skeptical to begin with, and after a loud "Duh!" at myself I realized that this was a set up, fake, foul play. I thought it was very well done, though. Hope I didn't get anyone's hopes up too high.
