"You can rest assured that his name has nothing to do with the attention he's getting."

First off San Diego leaked this information to the press from what was a closed door meeting. I saw nothing wrong with what Eli did. He let San Diego know before the draft that he wished that they did not pick him. The NFL lets the team that has the first pick in the draft to negotiate a contract before the draft so that they can get a player they can sign. If he was not traded and did not sign with the Chargers it would of been there fault for picking him. Plus if San Diego had Rivers rated higher why didn't they just pick him and all of this could of been avoided.

Tibor, haveYou ever seen Eli play? What game?
I have the college game day package and have seen him play several times.
You can rest assured that his name has nothing to do with the attention he's getting.
Coming out of college, he is more polished, more athletic and has a more accurate arm than his brother had.
You really need to know what you are talking about before you post so you don't constantly look so foolish.

No he doesn't.
San Diago cleaned the Giants clock on this one. Great move, Chargers!

You got that right Ram. Just look at what the Chargers did compared to the Browns.
Manning essentially tried to devalue their number one pick by saying they couldn't have the player they wanted. I am guessing the Giants didn't offer what SD wanted and SD called their bluff. With Manning in SDs pocket the Giants had no choice but to barter (SD had all year to trade Manning) - and they took the shaft.
Then along come the Browns. They could easily have called Detroits bluff and then offered the same trade if Winslow was gone. But instead they choke and trade the #7 and #37 players in the draft for the #6 player (note also that Ben Troupe would have still been available for that #37 pick). And to top it off it is a player who many of their fans hate and who is the last person on the planet who needed his ego stroked. Can you imagine how big his agent's eyes got when that trade was made? He will be the highest paid #6 pick in NFL history - if they can sign him (wuoldn't that be a hoot).
I want to play poker with Butch Davis.

Ram
You evidently didn't understand my point to Tibor.
It wasn't about the fact that the Giants may have given up to much. I think they were quite stupid to give up next years #1 for this guy. That is way too much for Manning or any player in this draft.
My point to Tibor is that he is wrong about Manning getting all this attention because of his name. That's just silly.
If his name was Bob Smith, he still would've been the most sought after QB.
Oh8
I don't like Butch. I can't see him taking the Browns to a championship.
But this sin't a bad draft.
Troupe is so far behind Winslow in talent and would not make the impact that Winslow will make.
Getting Jones in the Second round was a good move.
He's addressed three of the four biggest needs on this team since the end of the season.
1. A QB now and one for the future
2. A TE. Not any TE. One that should be great.
3. The 2nd highest rated safety in the draft.
4. They only need to work on the offensive line now.
