Andre Davis trade rumors
BROWNS INSIDER
With Edwards signed, Davis trade rumors resurface
Friday, August 12, 2005
Tony Grossi
Plain Dealer Reporter
Now that Braylon Edwards is signed, the trade rumors involving Andre Davis could heat up.
Davis started all seven games that he played in last season, but has performed under the radar in the Romeo Crennel training camp. He has not been mentioned in the same breath as starting receivers Antonio Bryant and Dennis Northcutt.
"As long as I'm still here, I'm continuing to be on the team, I'm making plays," Davis said. "They may not be anything spectacular, but I'm out there doing my job."
Davis was mentioned in a trade rumor with Seattle before camp started. But Edwards' absence put talks on hold. Since then, the Philadelphia Eagles have experienced losses at receiver and could be a possible suitor.
Asked whether he would welcome a trade, Davis said: "I don't even think about the trading stuff right now. Right now, I'm just worrying about the Giants and trying to get done with this weekend.
"I think it's been a real good camp. Ask the coaches and some of the players. I think I've been very consistent out there and I'm going to continue to work very hard."
Crennel's assessment of Davis' camp was different.
"I think he's had an average camp," Crennel said. "He started off a little slow, but I think he's come on a little bit the last couple of days. He's made some catches. They haven't been those dramatic down-the-field catches, but he's made some."
Crennel said Davis might have been affected by the trade rumors.
"I want him to listen to me when I tell him pay no attention," Crennel said. "All he can do is do his best. In this business, it's the only thing that players can do and let the chips fall where they may. They cannot control the decisions that I have to make."
Davis is listed behind Bryant. Frisman Jackson is listed behind Northcutt.
Crennel pointed to receiver and running back as positions of depth on his thin roster.

Andre Davis
all the sports media are mentioning it... they already have Davis in Phila or Seattle... for a 4th round pick... and mention it like it will happen very soon..
they have a couple of the undrafted rookies taking a spot on Browns roster... I guess the kid from Kansas is really impressing Crennel and so is the Kent QB..

Let me clarify....they will most likely wait for later in the preseason to trade Davis to see what injuries happen on other teams that will give them the most for Davis in my opinion.

I'd like to see them get more than a 4th rounder for Davis. He's not a bad player.

Agreed. I would expect for them to try and showcase him a bit if he truly is tradebait.
