Camp ends with big questions Quarterback still unsettled, no clear third wide receiver, some offensive line concerns

The Browns got positive answers on some of their questions in training camp but have large ones still unresolved.
Camp broke Thursday with the quarterback position unsettled, no clear third wide receiver and some offensive line concerns.
There were positives in the play of rookie cornerback Eric Wright, rookie left tackle Joe Thomas, linebacker Antwan Peek and running back Jamal Lewis.
The Browns' hope: That the struggles of the quarterbacks do not negate the gains that are present in the running game.

BEREA: With talk around the area about who should be the Browns starting quarterback, Ken Dorsey, the veteran from the University of Miami, has been the forgotten man able to ply his trade in relative anonymity without the glare of the spotlight.
He also may have an inside track when it comes to making the Browns' final roster when cuts begin in earnest next week. Dorsey, along with Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr., worked under the tutelage of new offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski when the coach served in the same position with the Hurricanes. That fact has made transitioning to this new offense easier, the quarterback said.

When Derek Anderson, center, struggled and Brady Quinn, right, held out, Charlie Frye took the lead in the QB competition.
BEREA -- Charlie Frye ended training camp yesterday as the Browns' No. 1 quarterback.
With Derek Anderson's futility in camp and Brady Quinn's late arrival, Frye has a loose grip on the starting job with two preseason games remaining. He will start Saturday against the Denver Broncos and expects to play the entire first half.
"I've taken most of the reps with the ones (first team) this week, so I feel like I'm ready to play," Frye said. "I'm ready to go out and just fine-tune everything."

Four quarterbacks on the final roster?
"In San Francisco, we kept four quarterbacks my last year there and every single one of us played," Ken Dorsey said on Thursday.
Keeping four quarterbacks, perhaps only temporarily, would solve the riddle about what to do with the loser of the starting competition between Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson. It also would allow Dorsey to maintain his role as unofficial mentor to young Brady Quinn.

DENVER A summer thought occurred Friday amid a 44-degree chill at the summit of Pike's Peak.
The toll was $10 for the spectacular 19-mile drive from Pike's Peak. Could it possibly be worth eight times that for to watch Antwan Peak in a game that didn't count?
Maybe it depends on what you're looking for.
There was this: Charlie Frye looked like a million for much of his third preseason stint, a 17-16 win over the Broncos. The No. 1 quarterback job is his to lose.
Before halftime, General Manager Phil Savage said it is "unrealistic'' to project rookie Brady Quinn - who looked good again - into the mix for the starting job Sept. 9 against Pittsburgh.
There's little doubt some Browns are responding, "It's silly not to at least think about it.''
Through three quarters, three QBs had sizzling passer ratings: Quinn 148.4, Frye 102.1, Derek Anderson 100.9.

DENVER A million hallelujahs echoed around Ohio televisions when Jamal Lewis ran for a touchdown.
Browns first-stringers hadn't produced one through two preseason games. That was in stark contrast to Charlie Frye's opening drive in his quest to end the quarterback question.
Frye passed and scrambled the ball downfield. Lewis finished the 80-yard drive - consuming five-plus minutes -with a 1-yard plunge.
How often have the expansion-era Browns ever looked like that?
They even did it without Kellen Winslow Jr.
