Falcons 'troubled' by news of Vick plea
Team issues only brief written statement at NFL's request
By STEVE WYCHE
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 08/20/07 Flowery Branch ? By the time news broke Monday that Falcons quarterback Michael Vick would enter a guilty plea on federal dogfighting charges, his teammates were gone from the practice facility and coaches and front office personnel were in meetings.
There was a sanitary chill in a building where, for months, employees have wanted to cleanse themselves of the negativity brought upon them by Vick's alleged, and soon-to-be-confessed, involvement in a dogfighting ring.

Reeves on Vick: 'It hurts. . . I hate it'
By STEVE HUMMER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 08/21/07 Dan Reeves has been away from the Falcons for nearly four years, and the parting wasn't mutual. That doesn't mean he can't feel deeply for everyone touched by the impending Michael Vick dogfighting plea.
"All of a sudden all this happens to a guy you felt was almost a part of the family," the former Falcons coach said Monday, shortly after it was announced Vick planned to plead guilty to charges stemming from a federal dogfighting investigation. "It hurts. I hate it. I hate it for the organization. I hate if for the city."

The rise and fall of Michael Vick
Falcons QB can't scramble out of dogfighting troubles
By STEVE HUMMER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 08/21/07 At its outset, the Michael Vick coming-to-Atlanta story was a savory mix of disbelief, wonderment and hope.
Were these the Falcons pulling off a daring, day-before-the-draft coup in the spring of 2001? The same bumbling franchise that seemed indelibly cursed since birth?

Commentary: NFL commish should show no leniency in dealing with Vick
Tuesday, August 21, 2007 3:37 AM
By Gary myers
New York Daily News
NEW YORK -- Michael Vick destroyed dogs, according to his partners in the despicable and inhumane crime, and as partial punishment he has destroyed his NFL career.
After Vick is sentenced, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell needs to tack on a long suspension to reflect not only the repulsiveness of the crime but also the lack of respect Vick showed on draft day when he lied to Goodell's face.
Goodell and the court system must combine to keep Vick off the field until at least 2010, and depending what the NFL uncovers in the illegal gambling aspect of the case, Goodell has the power to suspend him for life.
Three years away from the game should just about rob Vick of his greatest gifts -- his incredible athleticism and electrifying speed. Working out in the prison courtyard is not quite the same as training camp.
This has been humiliating for the NFL. Vick was one of the key players it marketed; a franchise built itself around him.

I don't think they are the same. If Vick was stupid enough to fight dogs himself and risk injury, he wouldn't be the coward he is instead.
