i have a little bit tougher of a time with this. if he throws for over 3k and runs for another 1k and wins the NC we can have that talk and i will actually entertain the idea. Till that point, i'll leave it at Troy's delivery is more fundamental and he is going to be a very good qb for some time to come.

I definately already respect Troy, and think he is a good player... He won tons of brownie points when he said, "I'm a Vince Young Fan" after the bowl game.

Can't wait to the game rolls around next year.

To try to say that Troy is better than Vince, in any capacity, is absurd. No offense. If you want, you can say that you feel Troy will be better than Vince (as a passer, or whatever), but Vince has earned his stripes, and he has more than Troy. I would love to be able to compare the two this time next year...but it's way too early to go that far right now.

Joe Schad mentioned the following in his Blog today regarding his experience at the AFCA meetings in Dallas this week ...

Quote:
[...] A great opportunity to chat with coaches like Texas' Mack Brown, who conceded that he agreed with Vince Young's decision to enter the NFL Draft.

Here's how Brown said the conversation went.

Young: "At this moment, I think it's best for me to go. What do you think?"

Brown: "If you were my son, I'd probably think the same thing."

What was Brown's explanation for not offering a plea to Young?

"What a selfish thing if you're a football coach," Brown said. "Fifty million dollars? I couldn't honestly tell him to come back."

Then Brown said something he's sure to repeat until the start of next season: "It's not like we're going to drop football at Texas. We'll have a good team."

True. I think Smith has the potential to be better as a senior than Vince was but he still needs to prove it. Troy Smith has really impressed me with his vision. I think Troy has a good chance to throw for 3,000 yards and 20 td's. Not trying to make Smith better than Young already.

I wasn't trying to put Smith ahead of Vince already. I think he has the potential to be a much better passer than Vince but he needs to prove himself next year before we can actually legitimetly compare the two.

I doubt Troy will do the 3,000 passing/1,000 rushing combo in the same season. It's not that I don't think he can't run for 1,000; rather, it's that our offense isn't designed for him to be the primary runner, as was this year's UT offense. This year, VY led UT with 155 carries, followed by Charles with 119, and Taylor with 76. Smith, however, was clearly the second running option in our offense, as he only had 136 carries compared to Pittman's 243. And I expect that his portion of the running offense will decrease with Chris Wells coming. I do fell that Smith's passing numbers will exceed 3,000 yards, however. And as for the NC...

Young was actually not our primary running option. The primary option was our running back position. However, since we have 4 runningbacks that rotated in, Vince ended up with the most carries. If we had a true feature back and he got the carries that our RB spot did, the numbers would far surpass VY's.

I think that Troy has impressed the entire country; however, those numbers would still not be as good as Vince's. He threw for 26 TD's this year with only 10 int's. Statistically Vince had the best season that any dual threat QB has ever had. Now I think that Troy Smith is going to be a great one, and as i said before, if he does better than vince i will certainly tip my hat to an amazing season.
