Young, Titans do a number on Saints

Tuesday, September 25, 2007 3:45 AM

NEW ORLEANS -- Vince Young got the best of Reggie Bush again, and the NFL's feel-good team from last season is off to a dismal start.
Young threw two touchdown passes and the Tennessee Titans kept New Orleans winless on the season, beating the Saints 31-14 last night before a Superdome crowd that showered boos on the team that provided such a pick-me-up to the devastated city a year ago.

Fisher says Young should be ready to start for Titans this week

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said Monday that he expects Vince Young to return to the Titans' starting lineup against the Raiders this week.

Young missed Sunday's victory against the Texans with a sore right quadriceps, which he suffered against Tampa Bay on Oct. 14.
"It was a very clear-cut decision we had to make,'' Fisher said, according to the Tennessean. "Now we have moved forward and said, 'OK, you have healed up to the point where you can go, so we expect you to take all the reps on the practice field and we'll put this behind you.'''

Titans' Young returns to class to earn degree

Thursday, February 21, 2008 3:24 AM
By Suzanne Halliburton

Austin American-Statesman

AUSTIN, Texas -- Vince Young's newest, immediate goals have nothing to do with the football field. Rather, the former University of Texas quarterback -- now with the NFL's Tennessee Titans -- is thinking about how achieving a 4.0 grade-point average is a realistic objective for him this spring. So is finishing his degree.
"I've been making some good B's right now. I've been making some high B's. Hopefully, the A's are coming," Young said.
Young has been away from Austin for two years, since leading the Longhorns to the 2005 national championship. In January 2006, he gave up his final year of eligibility and declared for the NFL draft, where he was the third pick overall.

Vince Young is known for escaping pressure. The quarterback almost took that to extremes.

The Tennessee Titans 2006 Rookie of the Year told NFL.com in an interview posted on Monday that he considered retirement after his first season.

"I really thought long and hard about it," Young told the Web site. "There was so much going on with my family. It was crazy being an NFL quarterback. It wasn't fun anymore. All of the fun was out of it. All of the excitement was gone. All I was doing was worrying about things.

"My teammates helped lift me out of it. I prayed really hard. And I began to focus on God's calling for me. Play football. Be a role model."

Contd...

This is why it's annoying when people say a good player would be stupid not to leave early for the draft. There are some things you just can't put a price on.

Agreed. I am a big fan have having these kids finish out their time in school. You can never get it back. Every year of gaining a little more maturity and wisdom goes a long way.
