Destroyers: A dandy on defense
Landry shines as bright spot during dismal season
Saturday, May 10, 2008 2:57 AM
By Bill Rabinowitz
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Today, Michael Landry is back in the city where he began his professional football career.
The Destroyers defensive end said he will not be feeling wistful.
After a college career at Southern University, Landry signed as an undrafted player with the Kansas City Chiefs. After more than a year on the Chiefs' practice squad and additional stints with Green Bay and San Francisco, he settled into the Arena Football League.
Landry is now a defensive end for the Destroyers, who play at the Kansas City Brigade today. He said he won't be playing "What if?" in his mind.

Im thinking at 2-8 that Coach Kay may be on his way out. It just sucks to see this franchise struggle every year and yet Cleveland gets a team (that was terrible in Vegas) and in year 1 they are already enjoying success. Oh well i hope they get it fixed before the franchise leaves.

Arena football: Destroyers' Thomas switches to defense
Saturday, June 7, 2008 3:15 AM
By Bill Rabinowitz
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
For his entire football career, Matt Thomas resisted the move.
Coaches saw him as a defensive back. He saw himself as a receiver.
It's funny how sitting on the bench can make a player more receptive to change. Thomas will start at defensive back for the Destroyers when they play the Georgia Force tonight in Nationwide Arena.
Little has gone right for the Destroyers (3-10). If Thomas builds on the promise he has shown, he could be one of the few redeeming elements of the season.

Gladiators' rise shows Destroyers there's hope
Saturday, June 21, 2008 3:10 AM
By Bill Rabinowitz
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
In their opponent, the Destroyers can see tonight that all is not hopeless.
Yes, the Destroyers' season imploded long ago, and tonight's game against the Cleveland Gladiators marks the merciful end. Columbus (3-12) has lost eight of its past nine games, which likely will cost coach Doug Kay his job.
But the Gladiators are proof of how quickly teams can resurrect themselves in the Arena Football League. Playing in Las Vegas last year, the Gladiators were 2-14. A victory tonight will put Cleveland (8-7) in the playoffs.
"You can turn it around quick any time," receiver Derek Lee said. "This season will go down as whatever record we end up with, and then it's over. We're zero and zero."
