Zimmer to be seen and heard
Mike Zimmer, off a typical animated outing in the rookie camp, gets to yell at the Bengals veterans for the first time on the field Tuesday. While their new defensive coordinator admits, "A lot of these players aren't going to like me," he is also committed to restoring the unit's reputation.
"I think we have good guys. Good people. I think they're tired of people just beating the hell out of them, from what I can tell," Zimmer said Monday, taking a break from preparing for the first voluntary session. "If we can overcome some of that outside deal and we stick together and believe in what we're doing, I think they can overcome

Backs and backers
Running back Chris Perry was on the field for the first time in May since his rookie year and he was a sight for quarterback Carson Palmer's sore eyes.
Even though Perry's dislocated ankle has kept him out of a game since November of 2006, Palmer said Perry looked like he did when he showed up at training camp for the first time with a rookie's quick feet in 2004 and reminds him of Pro Bowlers LaDainian Tomlinson and Larry Johnson catching the ball out of the backfield

Backs to the future?
Chris Perry came off his stool and Rudi Johnson bounced off the ropes Tuesday like boxers answering a bell for the 15th and final round when the Bengals opened their voluntary camp sessions.
With Perry finally overcoming an onslaught of injuries to appear on the field in May for the first time since his rookie year, Johnson checked in at a fighting weight of about 225 pounds in the revamped Bengals backfield. Or about 10-15 more pounds than last season

Backers on the move
Odell Thurman and Keith Rivers weren't even here Tuesday and the linebackers still made news.
Ahmad Brooks, who can't remember playing anything other than middle linebacker in his life, moved to the outside. Dhani Jones, who remembers playing in the middle only in a pinch, got pinched to middle linebacker in the ripple effects of putting Rivers at the WILL linebacker after taking him with the ninth pick in the draft.
Jones started the final eight games of last season at WILL, one of the two outside spots that switches off and on over the tight end. He also had a start at SAM, the other outside spot

Kenny Irons stopped by the Under Armour camp @ Cinci to talk to the kids. Said he lost 20 lbs since the surgery/etc. Looks like a DB.
